I worked in Taft California oil fields... It was "cooling down" but the best thing about it was that the CHINESE RESTAURANTS WERE BOOMING ....I GOT A STEAK FOR 4$. I LIVED IN A HOUSE SO THEY WOULD deliver...They would not deliver to trailer parks ..... If you see PRIDE PETROLIUM, THATS WHO I WORKED .....GOD BLESS THE CHINESE AMERICANS WHO FOLLOWED THEM....

You were absolutely correct. When you delivered in Baird, Tx a few weeks ago you were on the eastern edge of the Permian Basin. Been booming off & on for a long time. I grew up in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and Permian Basin football(what we called it) was always the state powerhouse! Western Oklahoma is the Andarko basin. Merry Christmas Jax!

The Permian Basin is an old old oil field. It kept Great Briton alive during WW2, as did all of Texas. It was the site of most of the world’s helium supply. It has some really deep wells from really old, as in billions of years, fields. It takes that kind of age in order to get the helium as it is a result of atomic decay causing the merging of hydrogen atoms by a process too damn hard for me to understand much less explain. Anyway, the most recent boom was because of the fracking that exploited old and drawn down fields. It’s also famous because of its high school football. Odessa Permian was a powerhouse for decades in Texas high school football. It was basically semipro ball back in the ‘70s. Amazing how many kids dads got great jobs if their kid played on the team. How many Camaros and new trucks the quarterbacks drove. How many cheerleaders were available on Saturday night. Blond haired blue eyed pictures of sin as the Rev. Billy G would say.

Correct-no such thing as a back-haul. It's a load going back to where you want to go, or a load going somewhere. Back-haul is simply a word that brokers/shippers use as an excuse to pay low rates.

It can be farmed yes, however a lot of folks that come into the big oil money decided to sell and move in with life after years of struggling to get by on the old farm or ranch.
