If they used the same method that they do on broadway, then she flies using what you call a "cherry picker". basically, you step onto a little platform and push a button in the cherry picker with your back. the button communicates with the computers backstage and the little belt around your waist clicks together. after the belt clicks, the computer knows it's okay to send you up into the air and it starts to send Elphaba up. BOOM. that's how she defies gravity

The elphaba has an incredible voice. I hope she is up to some amazing things nearly a decade later

I think she's been in a band. Kind of lost contact with her. She was amazing.

Update: it doesn't look like they used the cherry picker. it looks like they just used wires to lift her up (which was probably so uncomfortable). at 4:46 if you look close enough, you can see the wires that held her up.

Ouch, how did she sing with wires

The vocals in the ensemble are actually very strong and the leads are very good as well. It's hard not having the rights legal to use. For a SCHOOL PRODUCTION, I thought that was pretty amazing. The lift was very impressive. With legal rights to the show, better funding for costumes, effects, and scenery, the show would be full on perfect! Great job to all of you!

To me, this is the best "Defying Gravity" performance ever! I loved how the actress that played my favorite character from the show Elphaba was able to portray her character to let the audience know that she's wicked. The actress that played Glinda needs to work on her acting a little bit but she did really good though. Great job!

I saw a professional production in Omaha (not broadway) and they used the cherry picker style like broadway and the flight itself looked really similar except the cherry picker was like double the size. But this is an amazing production and I bet the budget was small but it looks amazing!

Has there ever been a blonde elphie onstage?? i've trained my voice for this role for TWO YEARS someone get me to broadway with steven schwartz please please i need it!!!!!!
@ElizabethMillward-millweirdo10 жыл бұрын
Elphaba has always been a brunette but there have been blonde Elphaba's (Kerry Ellis being one of them). but Elphaba has two wigs that she wears. the first one in the first act and the second wig in the second act. so it is possible for you to be Elphie on broadway :) hope that helped
