After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season.
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.
The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.

People complain about "why did they show so much in the trailer" but that's actually what people want. Most of the general public want to know most of what they're seeing so they aren't surprised. The famous movie Castaway with Tom Hanks had the end of the movie spoiled in one of the trailers because the test audiences for the trailer where it was more vague "wanted to know if Tom hanks got off the island" and it actually affected whether or not they're see the movie.

@@rebeccah4797 These two movies I mentioned feel like they were made with love. I saw Inside Out 2 in theaters yesterday and I was EXTREMELY impressed with what they did. It didn't just feel like something made to make money and sell toys. It was worth seeing in theaters, and I think this movie will be, as well. I absolutely plan to see this in theaters and I hope it stays true to the musical. I wonder if Chistery the monkey will be included in this? They keep showing scenes of a single monkey, like when he crashes through the window in the scene where she's obviously just been melted by Dorothy....I wonder if this is him? And I wonder just HOW they will handle Nessarose and Fiyero with their unique body enhancements? Like Nessarose is supposed to be in a wheelchair and not have arms and be practically helpless and immobile until she receives her silver slippers (another thing I am looking forward to seeing how they do) and Fiyero is meant to have blue jewels on his skin. I don't see any on him so far, and I REALLY don't want them to do the whole sparkly skin thing they did with Edward Cullen in Twilight.

Goosebumps, indeed! I was totally blown away upon watching this trailer, especially at the last part when Cynthia Erivo belted out the final notes of the song “Defying Gravity”. Of course, I must say that everything here is in pure perfection. Anyway, I’m excited to see the film.

Just left the cinema, it exceeded my expectations. Cinematography, costumes, acting, singing, effects, everything was spectacular and magical. I cried and laughed. I am seeing it again next week. Can’t wait for part 2.
