at the time in 1999, I guess Capcom did not have another arrange ready to pick for Top Man and Magnet Man, so they stuck with Mad Grinder from The Power Fighters (Arcade) and Cloud Man from The Power Battle (Arcade) instead, both originally from MM7. :P

You are insane. Mega Man 3 (NES) and Mega Man X (SNES) are the two gems of the series. Mega Man 4 to 6 have cartoony grapics and weird music, and Mega Man 1-2 doesn't contain the glide so they are harder, especially 1 which is super hard unless you do the pause glitch with the elec man weapon...

Well I don't disagree that much with him Because Megaman 3 contains even more flaws compared to the second game,such as Messy Level Design, glitches and massive slowdown and unbalanced difficulty curve (even more so in the last/final stages).

I really wish these had been released in the States- the Anniversary Collection has the remixed music (only worth it for 4,5&6 IMO), but none of the other cool bonuses like the unlockable parts. I’d import it and use a cheat device, but I don’t know Japanese. Hopefully someone will make a translation hack one of these days...

Hm yea agree to some extent here, the first 3 Famicom (NES) Rockman games were the ones that got music borrowed from the Arcade games because they were rushed to be released in 1999, while the last 3 were the ones that got new remix treatment. I can understand the reason for that, but I still love the music they picked. I think that at least Fireman for Rockman 1, and Sparkman for Rockman 3 could have got remixed treatment as well. It's the "MegaMan 2: The Power Fighters" version of the MegaMan 7 Intro Stage music, and you hear it when you fight the Mad Grinder boss in the Arcade game.

They probably didn't have all the musical assets ready for the 1999 release of these compilations, which is why we hear arcade music in the first 3 games, and newer arrangements on the later 3. O: Personally, I actually enjoy cloudman in magnetman stage, and mm7 intro in topman. For some strange reason it fits and its catchy~ ^^

I'll admit I exaggerated my negative thoughts on 5. For what it is, it's a solid game and a good starting point for those getting into classic Mega Man. With that said, I hardly find myself playing it as much as most other entries in the series.

A compilation of content put into one disc, aside from the game itself. You get the Original Mode, Navi(gation) Mode that give you hints and tips during gameplay along with flashier redesign of Health and Energy bars, remixed music in Navi Mode, unlockable enemy and boss information in the Database gallery, as well as CG Gallery images unlocked when you beat various modes in these ports. There's also Boss Attack Mode and Mission Mode where you try to beat certain stage sections or boss rush rooms as fast as possible, Pocketstation content that lets you train Rockman and the Robot Masters to level up and raise their Attack and Health, similar to training a Sonic Adventure Chao in a Dreamcast VMU memory card. In the later ports, Rockman 4, 5 and 6, you also have access to 8 different equippable parts that example make Rockman run faster, charge his buster faster, and other effects. And you can also play the Navi Mode without wearing Rockman's helmet, so you can see his hair during gameplay.

This is just an assumption, but I believe that the developers at Capcom were choosing between the CPS2 music from the arcade games, and they didn't have one that would fit Top Man or Magnet Man, so they went for the next best thing (MM7 music). I personally think they fit well in here lol. Capcom later resolved that issue with MM4, 5 and 6 by having completely new arranged music for each one.

I still don't get WHY they reverb the sound effects... ALSO I don't like it when they overlap as well. But the remixes are nice however, it's a shame not all of theme got an arranged version of their songs.

I don't remember the format used for sound effects, they seem to be all compressed into one audio file format on each of the Playstation game discs, but the BGM music, including the Famicom and Arranged music, are all in a streamable XA format, and not MIDI, and each song is roughly 5-6 minutes long, which is why if you let them play for that long, there will be a bit of weird fade out before the music loops again. Also since the game discs are about 650-700 MB in file size, all those XA music files fill up the discs a lot, since they are like MP3/WAV type music when it comes to file size, but they are in XA format instead. And when it comes to selection of music, Capcom had the Arcade games music prepared at the very least, and no new arrangements in particular, but they resolved it by the time they released Rockman 4, 5 and 6 by having composers commissioned to create new arrangements.

The first 3 games in this "collection" just took music from the Arcade games, maybe because they didn't have music created for specific stages or lack of resources. More effort was put into the last 3 games (Rockman 4, 5, and 6) since those have rearrangements of their full soundtracks.
