Terrific stuff. Not familiar with these gals but a nice introduction. Unique instrumentation. Sounds like a Kelly Willis song. I like the cadence and tempo of the tune. I get introduced to so many different artists on this channel. Most other reaction channels are mostly just the Bigger Chart hits.

Country music definitely has roots in Irish folk music, and particularly string bands. Oddly enough, this song reminds me of Hank Williams 3's throwback sound -but that might be because I just listened to his cover of 'Cocaine Blues.' This group definitely has the old 50s Country instrumentation, electrically updated.

I do like Dea Matrona. They are a great young group from Ireland. Very talented musicians. Thanks for sharing this song reaction request. Cheers, Don! ✌🏻

Orlaith (pronounced Orla) is on vocals and bass on this song. Mollie is on slide guitar. I cannot recall who was credited on drums. When playing live they added a second guitarist because on the record they often had multiple guitars on the songs as both ladies play guitar and bass. All guitars and bass on the album are Orlaith and Mollie but a couple different drummers were credited on the album. I believe they said this song just came about as they were goofing around and if I am not mistaken they said it Johnny Cash and Dolly Partin as inspirations. They recently opened for Sheryl Crow and supported Shania Twain.

@VinE83656 That is awesome that they opened for Sheryl Crow (I was just listening to her in my car), and that they supported Shania. I hope they find a niche in the industry because they've certainly worked hard to get there. Thanks for the info.

@@RockN2Country There is a nice little 15 minute or so video log of their day they opened for Sheryl. It’s called a Dea in the Life. It has some adult language but it’s an interesting watch, especially Sheryl’s on stage shout out to the girls
Dea Matrona are difficult to classify but their songwriting and musicianship are first class !

The rest of the album is guitar rock with harmonies. They have a little pop and blues and even a little funkiness on some of the songs. It's a diverse album with something for everyone. The album is all originals. Also, they turned down record company offers and wrote and produced the album themselves. Finally, you got the band name correct. It is pronounced Day-a Matrona which means Divine Mother Goddess in Irish folklore.

Their ability to inhabit different genres of music is uncanny.
