For the comments of ignorance in connection with the size of the speaker, the best loudspeaker in the world would be at the size of a table-tennis ball, but would have a big sound like the biggest ones today. This is the theory of the point source, dating back to times of Huygens, the Dutch physicist. In order to come closer to this (unrealistic today) goal, you need a stiff, heavy, nonresonant cabinet and the same but superlight, instead of heavy, moving surfaces on the drivers. Small cabinet means less interraction with the projected energy and the room. For the power of the very lows, perhaps you need a pair of subs. Reducing the size, WITHOUT reducing the undistorted high pressure volumes needed for a realistic playback, is a good thing. Rockport are on the right path. The majestic, tall soundstage today's behemoths provide, although alluring and mesmerising, is, usually, unrealistic, larger than life. I believe a concept like the Lyra (and even this one), matured and optimized, will put to shame all wilsons and magicos and anything else in the future.

@@fullranger3435 Not gonna argue. But imo, a tiny little MIDGET speaker like that should NOT cost anywhere near 78k. That is ROBBERY. I Would LOVE to see how many units they move, with all the competition out there. These are literally more than twice the price of a Sonus Faber Amati G5. More than the Stratavari! More than B&W's flagship 801 D4. Why?!?

@@Larwiz Answer to the last question, first: Because it's more truthful in its reproduction of the signal and because the R&D and construction process involved (in order to deliver this extra truthfulness) involves extrordinary difficulty, labour, time and resources. The technology Sonus Faber uses is pretty standard and inexpensive. But if you're OK with what other brands deliver at a lower price or at a bigger box for the money, no problem. To the first comment now. The cost is for what IT DELIVERS, no matter the size, as well as the difficulty of the make. Rockport's (new) construction philosophy (mainly of the Lyra), enables smaller loudspeakers to deliver the sound bigger ones normally would. But don't see only the size (which is a plus to go smaller). Look at the weight! It's heavier than much bigger ones! I have no connection with Rockport at all, I just know what they do works, because I involve similar philosophies and approaches (although in a totally different way) for my own DIY loudspeakers. I think Rockport should also make a bigger than the Lyra loudspeaker. Perhaps it would weigh a ton (literally), but it would fit in any hiend audiophile room. Their present approach requires that they develop a subwoofer of the same make (for the infrasonic and neighboring content).

78k for this speaker seems crazy. How do these companies who make these high end products survive?

Based on the effort that goes into a speaker of this class it seems very reasonably priced. Rockport speakers are really good, the price-value composition is there. I feel like this one might become one of their best selling speakers over the next few years.

You like the size?!?!? Jay, why are you lying to us?!?!? You've already shared that you like a taller speaker that can give you a taller soundstage.

What a blasted shame. A speaker this small, with 0 presence whatsoever, priced at 78k!!! I could see if it were $7800. But 78k, for this tiny little speaker. Hell no!!!! There are way too many speakers that have more presence to them, sound good, and are less expensive. I don't know who would buy this speaker. I don't even care if it sounds good.
