Thanks! I'm a complete newb to salt water tanks and this was a great help in my research to start a reefer tank.

I have a life rock with a lot of pest. I’m getting tired of constantly getting rid of them. Is it possible to take the live rock out, let it die out and putting it back in ? If so, how long does that whole process take.

Hello! You can certainly dry out the live rock and let any pests die out for a couple of weeks. We just recommend giving the rock a good clean before adding it back in as it can raise your phosphate and nitrate levels.

I baught some dry Caribsea life rock: am I able to break them in half if their too big, wash them thoroughly with RO water and place it into my 1.5yo tank?

Just keep in mind that the finish of the broken areas won't look the same as the rest of the rock. But if that doesn't bug you visually, not a problem.

You technically don’t need to cycle the aquarium if you go with live rock right ?
@BulkReefSupply2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. In most cases, you'll be adding enough nitrifying bacteria to convert the ammonia of a few fish right away. That said, most reefers won't add fish right away and will instead monitor for ammonia in the early going as there can be some die off on live rock, depending on how it was transported.

So can I add live rock to a established aquarium?
@augukern97083 жыл бұрын
As what it can be seen in the vid, you can, the additional bacteria on the live rck will just die if the bacteria doesn't find enough surface area. I heard you need to dose as bacteria won't reproduce. Depending the type of rock, you can get undesired pests. So the rock may just create a bloom at the beginning but that's what I only say.

He is mostly right except the fact that the rock itself is not alive, but rather the creatures and bacterias that call it home are.
