Seeing it from the top for the first time is one thing that never leaves your memory, but hiking down a couple thousand feet into the canyon is when you begin to understand just how mind blowing and magnificent the Grand Canyon is. Waterfalls, creeks, cottonwood trees, and a lot of unexpected sights that truly take your breath away. Great video!

My family left Cuba when Castro took over and my mother ALWAYS loved America. My mom has passed but she left me with that same love for this country....plus a connection to Cuba and the Cuban people. Hopefully one day the lives of both countries can be connected by peace and prosperity!

John Muir and his many friends had to coax and coddle president after president to not let the national parks become a money-making scheme for selfish people, which so many wanted to do. After all, the logging industry would have logged every last one of the Sequoias and Redwoods if they hadn't been stopped, and uranium mining would be going on in the Grand Canyon today if several nearby tribes hadn't fought hard for years to stop those groups once and for all (at least there) with the Baaj Nwaavjo/I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument on Aug. 8 of last year. The battle cry seems to be "money first; beauty dead last" for way too many people.

I’ve been to the Grand Canyon back in 2003, hiked all the way down camped overnight and then hiked all the way back up. I have tons of amazing photos. One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

I did the same thing back in 2010 except I didn't camp. I hiked down to the river, crossed it a few times and then hiked back up on the same day. The most insane, difficult but memorable day of my life. Took me at least a week to recover.

The hardest thing to capture is the sheer scale. Even on video, it just kind of looks like you're on a mountain overlooking other mountains. Its something you truly have to see to fully grasp how otherworldly huge it is. I remember walking from the parking lot and thinking "all i see are these trees" and then it just appears in front of you. My reaction was the same as his: utter disbelief.

I spoke to an artist when my family went to see the canyon and he told me that most of the people he'd observed over the 40 years that he began painting usually stood and gazed at this miracle of nature for less than 30 seconds. Seeing pictures and video don't do it justice. When you're there in person you can really feel the scale of it. It's an existential experience. I highly recommend visiting during the winter. There's less traffic and it's so much more beautiful when it's covered in snow. You can camp near the rim for free. Just take the right gear to deal with the cold.

My grandma hiked down to the bottom, went rafting, brought back up by mule, she was 75 at the time and lived to 101. My husband and I went 20 yrs ago, it is too much to take in, i also cried.

I feel the indigenous vibe the minute I look at this. Also as a kid when I went to Yosemite every year with my family. I always felt the presence of the Native American spirit. It is a shame we wiped out a connection to the Land and to the Earth that is a REVERENCE. Seeing the Grand Canyon in person is truly life changing! When I saw it for the first time, my eyes could see it but my mind was having trouble processing what I was seeing. It is so huge, so breathtaking, and so awe inspiring, it's difficult to wrap your head around it! You literally just need to sit there and try to take it all in. My first visit to the Grand Canyon was in 1969 and it breathtaking. I now live a couple of hours south, near Flagstaff. I am fortunate to be able to visit several times a year and it is still as breathtaking as it was 55 years ago. I love seeing the reaction of first time visitors, the dropped jaws, the wide eyes, the WOWs. I am glad you made it there. Don’t be a stranger, come back often.

I saw the canyon as a little girl in the late 1960s. I still remember the feeling of awe and being shorter than the railing.

Me too, in the early 60s!! Before there were crowds. And Bryce, Zion, Yosemite, Mammoth Springs and Old Faithful. Every year we’d go somewhere else. Philadelphia. Washington D.C. for the memorials, the Declaration of Independence, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Amish in Pennsylvania and the Hershey factory. The Great Lakes and Quebec. Ellis Island, where my father came through as a child with his mother in the 1920s to escape the pogroms. In NYC, the Empire State Building and Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim (I wonder if she could get tickets for them to see “Hamilton” on Broadway, there would be a long wait but worth it to see the show, they’ve already been to Katz’ Deli). Yoel might have fun at New Mexico’s Hot Air Balloon Fiesta held every October, it’s the most photographed event in the world. It’s been suggested by one statesman that if immigrants would be required to visit several landmarks every year, whether natural or patriotic, they’d better understand this culture, and just how vast and varied the country is, just like these two “kids” are doing, and it would make assimilation easier. I’m so glad you two are here. Welcome, Yoel!
