Fox float dhx2 vs rockshox super deluxe coil?
@NickBosshard4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the internal differences of the Super Deluxe vs. the Super Deluxe Coil, but if they're as similar as the Float X2 and DHX2, the DHX2 and Super Deluxe Coil should have more or less the same differences as shown in the video, besides the air spring differences of course.

I'm about 56 kg or 123 lbs and I've done some research on this and it seems quite correct. I can only ride my Deluxe Select+ at the fastest rebound, same for my Recon fork. I would like to have a couple more clicks to go faster, ie, the fastest rebound being faster than currently. Also, I use low pressures but I had to seg my sag at no more than 25% because I was bottoming it out a lot with more intense riding, and I feel suspension bobs a lot on pedalling as well. It may as well be the kinematics of the Polygon Siskiu D7, but I am currently looking forward to doing a custom tune on shock and fork to see if it improves.

I rode Fox suspension on a 2011 GT Sensor 1.0 for years and never had to touch it...no oil or air leaks, it just worked. My 2020 Revel Rascal came with Rockshox and it's been nothing but a PITA. The fork leaked oil in the first few months, had to have my LBS fix it, and now the "deluxe" shock is leaking air. I have to refill it every time I ride, and during the ride! I didn’t find setup of the X2 very difficult. Maxed out the air volume spacers because my bike has a regressive leverage curve, set the pressure to give me roughly 20% sag then set high/low speed compression/rebound knobs within the suggested range. Set high-speed rebound at the top of the suggested range (slower rebound) for jumping. Worked great for me and it was a huge performance improvement.
@atom6314 жыл бұрын
I have a '20 Scout with a '20 X2 and after months of not being able to get the suspension feeling good, I decided to just try setting the HSC and LSC fully opened and then fully closed. I noticed no difference at all. This also coincides with not noticing any difference with the climb switch. I sent it in to Fox who determined there was a problem with the shock and replaced both the compression and rebound circuits. When I got the shock back I noticed that the rebound had way more adjustability to it, but the compression feels the same, no difference from fully opened to fully closed. I contacted fox again and they said they put it on the dyno and determined the compression was fixed and noticed a difference in the settings. Im kind of at a loss here bc no matter what changes I make the shock feels mushly and seems to blow through its travel. For all the X2 owners at there - have you ever tried going from fully opened to fully closed and if so, can you tell a difference? Im trying to determine if this is by design or the shock is still actually bad
@mikes.83054 жыл бұрын
Ouch. Yes even a few clicks makes a massive difference with rebound. For LSC it would make a huge difference in traction and feel. Sounds like your sag point may not be dialed? Have you tried adding the orange volume reducers in the shock? You can probably do it with the shock installed on the bike.
@atom6314 жыл бұрын
Mike S. My sag is within the acceptable range that Transition lists. I’ve tried at the bottom end and the top end of the range too. no change in compression. It’s always the same no matter fully open or closed

atom631 Sounds broke to me. HSC should help with bottom out support, but most often bottom out control is done through spacers in the shock. Just load them up if they aren’t already. I think the Meg Neg can is genius and a great tool to have available. I over-forked my bike and the Meg Neg helped get the rear have a softer initial stroke to balance the front changes. I would love a rockshox shock that omits the lockout for HSC adjustment. Rockshox has spoilt us with easy to use HSC on their fork cartridges and now it’s time to give us that on the rear of the bike. The deluxe rebound adjustments could use a few more clicks range. Perhaps 10-12 instead of the 7 clicks that mine has. I like that your review does point out how useful the Meg Neg can be changing the spring curve and midstroke support: a key advantage. My 2 cents. If your buying a new shock get the float x2 (unless it’s just too far out of budget) as it can become any shock and it’s damping curves can be tuned to whatever you like. If your bike came with an X2 then your already good to go. The third scenario is the one I don’t understand is people who’s bikes come with the Super Deluxe and they don’t like it then go and buy a Float X2. There are some traits in the super deluxe that just can not be externally tuned out such as it’s digressive compression damping curve and this is where you send it to people like Vorsprung and now it is tuned as your shock for you and what your after. This is a much cheaper option and the end result is very good.
@peterknight78803 жыл бұрын
I actually had this dilemma a while back and went with the Super Deluxe because of the cost. I don't regret that decision because (as a very average rider) I don't think I would notice the difference. I'd say the X2 is only for pro's or extremely keen amateurs who want the best thing out there, but most normal people looking for a high end shock will be very satisfied with the Super Deluxe.

These two shocks are being compared because these are the "enduro" shocks from each brand. We wish RockShox would make a highly adjustable, large volume rear shock, but right now they do build/market the Super Deluxe Ultimate the same way that Fox does with their X2. After this video was made, RockShox released the Float X which is very similar to the Super Deluxe Ultimate in design and adjustability, but still, RockShox just has the Super Deluxe Ultimate which is their "enduro" shock.

@TheLostCo3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, really sorry to hear about that! Please know that it's not super common for something like this to happen, and also it could happen to any shock. Dealing with service or warranty can always take a while in the Spring and Summer since everyone's hoping to get their suspension serviced for the season. Right now is even crazier because companies physically can't get parts for certain things. All in all, that's no fun for riders to deal with, but they're definitely trying their best. There are currently no known/recurring issues with the X2 that we know of. This is our #1 best selling shock, and most of us at the shop ride it on our personal bikes. If it's made by humans it can't be perfect, and issues do pop up here and there with all products from both the bike industry and all others. Feel free to shoot us an email to sales@thelostco.com to let us know what's going out with Fox's long wait time to fix your shop and we'll try to figure out any way we can help speed things up! No guarantees, but it's worth a shot!

The shocks cost more than my current bike. For a dual suspension trail bike, I think a Fox Float DPS would be fine. If I was buying an Enduro or downhill bike, I'd look at your shocks.

There is going to be a perfect weight where the shims are spot on in the Rockshox but i doubt it is for you or you wouldn't have given the fox a 10% better score , i wonder what weight they designed for ?

I fully agree Super delux is a fine shock, but lack of tunability holds it back.

Great comparison!...I'm running the Fox Float X2 on my Giant Reign but was comparing it the the RockShox Super Deluxe Select on the Santa Cruz Hightower. Nice to know that it looks like I've got a more adjustable shock. Thanks!

Is it possible to do this sort of comparison with coil shocks or just the coils? Specially with those progressive coils from MRP or Cane Creek. I really want one but there are no videos comparing either one of them.

How much pressure are you running in your Tires with these Shocks Setup in this video? I´m seeing that you have a Assegai up front and Minion DHR in the back (not sure which casings). The Tires seem to absorb quite a lot.

Hows that small bump absorption/traction on the RSSD w/ that $90 MegNeg upgrade? It's still cheaper than an X2 at that point.
@Kot10264 жыл бұрын
The Rockshox vs Fox debate is the same as Sram vs Shimano; eventually all comes to personal taste... I would say go for the X2 if you really feel that you need that bit extra performance and you're sure you will notice that little difference. Otherwise, for set & forget, go with the Rockshox.
@gmas1353 жыл бұрын
I have a hard time with your justification that you couldn't change the shim stack in your shop because the kits weren't available (to modify the SDU hsc). Rockshox publishes their shim stack configurations. If you can get someone to fit a new shim stack kit, you could probably get the same person to look at the tune you wanted and replace a few shims (sourced from a hardware store or some spares). It seems like a vague justification to bump up the X2 vs the SDU.
@TheLostCo3 жыл бұрын
That's all true! However, having to do custom work to a brand new shock that you just purchased isn't as streamlined as just purchasing a shock with every adjustment done externally. Shops that can swap shim stacks are very few and far between.This means 99.9% of riders will need to ship their shock somewhere, wait while it gets worked on, have it shipped back, and spend money for shipping, parts and labor. And even after that's all said and done, you can't adjust high and low speed compression if desired without doing the entire process over again. *_Again, both awesome shocks with pros and cons._* Our overall review of each shock doesn't really having us majorly favoring one over the other, and we don't really say that we just flat out recommend the X2 over the SDU. We did share that we believe that the SDU is an amazing shock for most riders, and the X2 just helps push things to the next level since the tuning is just much more accessible from the external knobs. The choice is then in the hands of the rider depending on what they're looking for.

For confidence setting up suspension both brands have really extensive guides on shock set up on their website that gets the shocks and forks feeling alright but try changing one nobb at a time and run the same trail to feel the difference and slowly tune it to what feels best to you Also fox suspension is kinda a pain to service compared to rockshox especially when it comes to shocks
@TheLostCo2 жыл бұрын
True that! If you just move slowly and adjust one knob at a time you'll get to a great set up eventually. -Tor

I have a Patrol and because its so linear the advice is to stay far away from an X2. Ive heard nothing but good things about the Megneg on a Patrol, its supposed to be a HUGE upgrade over the DPX2. I really wish Fox would just copy them and come out with a MegNeg can for the DPX2, Fox doesnt seem to have an answer for bikes with linear suspension designs.

I don't know about rockshox but with fox most bikes have a tune for it, you can look up that tune code on the Fox website.
