Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an action shooter game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. The game is a spin-off of the Batman: Arkham series, and is a follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), although it excludes the events of Batman: Arkham Origins from its canon.[2] Based on the DC Comics team Suicide Squad, the game follows four supervillains-Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark-who are assembled by Amanda Waller and sent to Metropolis to stop the alien invader Brainiac and free the members of the Justice League brainwashed by him. The open-world design allows players, either individually or cooperatively, to freely roam Metropolis.
Kill the Justice League was announced in August 2020 and was scheduled to be released in 2022, but was delayed multiple times. It is set to release for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on February 2, 2024, and released early for deluxe edition owners on January 29, 2024. The game featured Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman following his death on November 10, 2022.
Early previews were "overwhelmingly negative",[3], with particular criticism towards the gameplay.[4] The game's launch was troubled with software bugs, which led to the early access servers being taken offline, with the game's story being leaked ahead of its release date.[5] Unique among modern triple A titles, review codes were not given to critics before release, with internal concern over the game's reception.[6][7]
Batman: Arkham is a series of action-adventure video games based on the DC Comics character Batman, developed by Rocksteady Studios[1][2] and WB Games Montréal, and published originally by Eidos Interactive and currently by Warner Bros. Games. The franchise consists of four main installments and an upcoming spin-off, along with four smaller titles for mobile devices, a virtual reality game, tie-in comic books, and an animated film. Not only it's how he dies; it's the complete bastardization of the character's development as well. In the final moments of his life, they took Gotham's savior and turned him into a monster, a complete villain, Joker won in the end, the entire psychological arc he went through AK was for nothing, everyone who put their faith in Bruce is dead, his allies and family betrayed, it's like some edgy 13 year old's fanfic. And after doing this, they couldn't even bother to give him one final act of redemption with a heroic death or sacrifice, no, they gave him the most disrespectful death possible. This ain't Arkham universe, they're just using the name for their stupid game to make money.

GOOD NEWS: It has been confirmed Kevin Conroy recording lines for the upcoming animated movie Crisis in Infinite Earths 3! And specifically, he is voicing the version that made him the star he was: The BTAS version of Batman! Now THAT'S a Sendoff! It saddens me how most SS supporters simply go "Stop crying it's just a game" at the idea of having grown attached to the Arkhamverse, making wonder if any of the people coming to this game even played the previous Batman games or if any of them really cared for the story. Rocksteady were masters of blending amazing gameplay with gripping narratives. The stories of the Arkham series were as big of an element as the gameplay itself. Yet these supporters act like growing attached to these characters, to care about the narrative, is something that should be considered ridiculous. The true image of "Don't ask questions, just consume product and get excited for next product!" Spoiling the story a bit more so skip this bitn if you don't wanna know: even looking further one can see how much of a slap in the face the SS game story is to it's predecessors. Batman fakes his death, detatches from his family...only to them be "Oh hey I'm back and I'm gonna hang out with my justice league friends!", only to then get brainwashed, kill his own family and then die by getting shot by harley. It also retroactively ruins Arkham Knight's plot; A entire story about Batman struggling against the memory of Joker, who's grip on his body and sanity could lead him becoming what he fears the most: A batman who kills and destroys the innocent. He manages to overcome it and cleanse himself from Joker's control. But now we must accept that no, in the end, it didn't even matter, because no matter what we did in Arkham Knight, all of Bruce's accomplishments were for nothing. He still go brainwashed, he still became a bringer of death and destruction. In the end he lost. It's like seeing a movie, and then you see the sequel, and because they couldn't get some actor or couldn't think of a better plot, they had to write some terrible reason of why everything is back to Status Quo. It's cheap, it's convenient to the writer, but the viewer gets cheated from having invested on the previous instalment. There was NO NEED to make this game be set in the Arkhamverse. At the end of the day beyond a cute museum tour and the Knightmare battle, nothing that happens IN the previous games truly has any importance to the SS plot. Hell, with the game introducing the concept of Elseworlds there was even less of a reason! Using the Arkhamverse was nothing but a nostalgic choice to grab people who enjoyed the Arkham verse but wouldn't vibe with the gameplay of SS. As said before. Feels cheap and convenient to the creators, and awfully disheartening for fans.

It’s worth noting that dataminers found evidence that they’re going to bring the JL back in post-game seasons, including Batman so this definitely isn’t the end of him. Plus it’s implied in game that Brainiac gave them regeneration abilities. I think what irks me the most is them allowing Batman to be killed at the hand of a character who did nothing to earn it. If it were Arkham Joker, it would sting but at least it would feel earned. Harley Quinn is just Joker's girlfriend, but they try to make it seem like she's earned a spot in the Arkhamverse that's worthy of having killed Batman. Just my two cents.

I met Kevin Conroy twice, the first time was awesome but it was the second meeting that was special. It was November 2015 at a local comic con and was also the last day of the con, everyone who had wanted to see him had already done so over the past couple days (I have anxiety and cons are exhausting) so I got to speak with him for about 20 minutes. He even sneakily told me that he was going to be Batman in the upcoming Killing Joke movie (“Keep an ear out in January “ and winked) I got some pictures and he signed my copy of Arkham Knight (still have it). I’m deeply saddened that they not only did this to his character but also his legacy. Kevin Conroy was one of, if not the nicest celebrity that I met at a comic con (you can tell when someone wants to be there or not) and he doesn’t deserve to have this be his final role as Batman.

Sad part this completely obliterates Arkham Knight's whole Narrative in that Batman struggles to fight the mind control of the Joker refusing to become a mass murderer that would kill his friends and family. I truly disagree with the notion that a Superman Game can't be done right, there are countless examples of how it could easily be achieved, for instance games like God of War has Kratos(a God) fight other Gods and travel throughout many pantheons doing so for either revenge or redemption stuff like that, another example would be something like Prototype (Gameplay wise) You can fly around multiple cities and take on countless threats that are akin to your level or above and the way you play especially in Prototype 2 with the Radnet abilities like the Laser Eyes and such really give you that Superman like feel, then you have most of the Dragon Ball Games, a lot of which pretty much make you automatically Superman like in that you can fly through space and have access to a plethora of abilities that enable you to do soo many incredible things all while playing through a narrative that doesn't bog you down or feel out of place for someone of your high power level. Superman has a plethora of enemies you can mold an entire game around, characters like Metallo who's powered by Kryptonite, Parasite who can drain your powers just by touching you, Brainiac who's a 12th level intellect that has technology that can easily deal with your strength and abilities, Mongal who has a weaponized planet as his arsenal and is already a physical match for Superman to begin with, Lex Luthor who's developed countless counter measures to deal with Superman's abilities even weaponizing Kryptonite of many different varieties with varying effects, not to mention stuff like Red Sun Guns which can temporarily shut down Superman's Powers. Mr. Mixy who's a 5th Dimensional Imp with Reality Bending Powers that can really Mess up Superman if he's not careful, Darkseid who's a God in his own right, Doomsday who's a Superman Killer, and of course the many alternate versions of Superman or other Kryptonian's like himself such as Bizarro, Ultraman, Zod and many others. I think you get the point, there's no shortage of ways or characters that can give Superman Trouble in his own game/verse. Superman can do anything yes but that doesn't mean he can't be done right in his own game, would you have to limit certain things? possibly though I'd argue that right now with how advanced stuff like Unreal Engine and other tools are now there's no reason we can't try to make it work, just saying "it's too hard" or "It's unrealistic" or whatever is like giving up trying to learn how to cook or how to write a novel because it's "too hard" nothing in life is easy to achieve but that's why much like Superman you never give up, even when it's hard, especially when it's hard because you only fail when you've truly given up. I truly believe a Superman Game can be done right, it just takes Time, Talent and Effort much like with anything else, nothing is impossible.

I hate this game with all of my soul. It's just a poorly executed, disrespectful, waste of space mess of a game. It should've been rejected the moment it was pitched. It's terrible in every fathomable way. People don't wanna kill the Justice League. They wanna *play* as them. Any way you slice it, a game like this will always leave a bad taste in peoples' mouths. Especially mine due to Kevin Conroy's situation in it. Screw this game. Screw everything about it. I am done with this bullcrap.

Even if we explored the other DC heroes in the Arkhamverse, that doesn't change how tasteless this would be. Without it, the hero we spent years on is pushed off to the side. With it, the heroes we got are being killed off by lesser characters with mediocre jokes and no respect. The concept, alone, is totally fucked.

Also worth taking into account that when Rocksteady made the first Arkham Asylum, they said in interviews that this game could be seen as a "Spiritual Sequel" to the Batman Animated Series. Which means that to some extent they designed and wrote this Batman to be a character people who had watched the animated series could easily identify with.

I kind of thought Harley would grow as a character and not shoot Batman, maybe keep him tied up and try and find a cure for him in Brainiac's ship, Not only would Arkham Verse Batman go out still on top and possibly get another boss battle but it would allow Harley Qwinn to grow as a character like in many other version's and to show that Batman helped someone to thier path of redemption....I'm not even a writer and I somehow came up with a better ending to The Game than people that get paid to do it did

Unrelated question, does it take a lot of time to animate your character the way you do? I usually put your videos in the background while I do chores around the house and stuff so I never really paid attention to the quality of animation, I did today however and I'm pleasantly surprised. Facial expressions and body language are very fitting to the commentary and charming AF, clearly some animations are reused but you mix them up and shift in-between them fluidly so it's barely noticable, the overall result is great. So yeah, I was wondering if it's a complicated/time-consuming process or if it's something quick and easy for you at this point.

I have no issues with the game. Now Harley Quinn? Yes I have an issue. She never had a relationship with ivy (yet she alludes to having had one with her) in the arkhamverse and she refers to the joker as her ex yet she was madly in love with him even after he died. In Arkham knight Harley Quinn and all of Batman’s villains got pissed at ivy for not helping them kill Batman. Harley never dated ivy or even let alone was her friend

I’ve been a Batman fan since I was 4 years old. I grew up watching Batman TAS when it originally aired. I also agree that anytime I read a Batman comic I always imagine Kevin Conroy’s voice for Batman. Kinda like I always imagine Mark Hamill for The Joker. Batman is my all time favorite DC Superhero. I’m also somewhat disappointed on how they treated Spider-Man (Peter Parker) in Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2. I’ve been a Spider-Man fan since I was 6 years old. I grew up watching Spider-Man TAS when it originally aired. Anytime I read a Spider-Man comic I usually imagine hearing Christopher Daniel Barnes’ voice or Rino Romero’s voice. Spider-Man is my all time favorite Marvel superhero.

Even if rocksteady tries to scavenge anything from this the damage to their reputation is beyond repair and the trust of their customers has been drained especially when they tried denying the leaks about Arkham Batman’s death. Also the fact that most of the team in rocksteady that made Kill the justice league wasn’t the original rocksteady team that made the Batman Arkham trilogy and someone did do a side by side difference of the people that made the Arkham trilogy and Kill the justice league especially when the original founders of rocksteady left after WB cancelled their Arkham verse Superman game for this game, also im surprised you didn’t add the thing after the Thank You Kevin Conroy where after it fades *Spoiler* it says “The End?” And then proceeds with the animation of the new weapons you’ve earned after that, while i want to think it’s unintentional it just gives a bad taste.

How do you make a meaningful gameplay style to Superman? Easy. You can just kill the monster. It's a lot harder to stop the monster while making sure you save EVERYONE. If you are Superman in a Superman game, you don't need a HP bar unless Kryptonians or Kryptonite is involved. Instead? You're ranked on how many people you saved. And if anyone dies? You hear it. Superman would. And like him, you gotta register it. Every time. Make saving people into a core gameplay mechanic, one that makes things harder on the player but leads to better scores and endings. Superman isn't afraid you're going to hurt him. He's afraid you're going to hurt anyone else.

He fought 8 assassins in one night, resisted Titan and defeated Titan Joker in one night, scrounged up a cure for Joker's virus in one night, and faced the lingering effects long enough to win over Joker and defeat Scarecrow, again, in one night. Night after night, he triumphed over both external and internal struggles. He has proven himself. So by brainwashing him and making him kill his family, it sends the message that no, none of those triumps mattered. Because the Joker, in the end, won. Bruce died a psychotic killer, just as Joker wanted. All his triumps become failures, all his hopes become ash in the wind, and he dies worthless and pathetic, in front of 4 villains who brushed it off like it was another Tuesday.

I can't seem to understand the amount of outrage, Batman Was clearly under Braniac's control and was severely underperfoming as were all the JL Members. The fact that the Suicide Squad managed to Kill Batman is simply due to Harley having a counter to the fear toxin and Batman Being completely brain controlled to the point where even Harley Says he "Isn't the Real Batman" Clearly implying he was being completely different. He literally doesn't kill the them simply because Braniac calls for him to deliver The Flash. TLDR He wasn't even "The Real Batman" he was being completely different and the Brain Washing severely impacted his intelect.

The Guardians of the Galaxy game handled a team dynamic by having you only play as Star Lord and commanding the team individually either in combat or to solve puzzles. It had really focused gameplay and a tight story. I feel like they could have done something similar with having you only play as Harley, building off Arkham gameplay she had on the challenge maps mixed with a more advanced version of the team combos Batman and Robin used in AK. It also probably would have been a better game if they went against their orders and saved the JL.

We go for over a decade playing as this Batman and wondering what the other superheroes were like. And within one short game they are all killed in the most DISRESPECTFUL AND LUDICROUS WAYS. Of everything else with this controversy, this stings even extra for me after I just played Arkham Knight for the first time this past month (never had anything past the ps3/xbox 360, so only got to play it on the Switch)..and seeing the bit in that about Tim marrying Barbara, Batman’s ending in that. It’s all fresh to me and..just ouch.
