There are so many beautiful THINGS in South Korea, like mountains, people (we call Friends) and history. Though I migrated in Australia 10 years ago, I really miss KOREAN THINGS much from time to time. Strongly recommend. JIRI mountain (it means people get wisdom) and JEJU island as well. JEONG, I think is "WARMTH" between people. Thanks Rock the Park team for all your efforts

Mt.Seorak is absolutely amazing and stunning! I did the same two-day hike, same route in October many years ago. Very strenous, but i cannot forget the experience. We happened to arrive at the BongJumAm temple right when they were serving dinner and they provided for free. Just a humble seaweed soup with rice in it with a few pieces of Kimchi on top is nothing more than ordinary Korean home dish, but it was the most unforgettable, delicious, and comforting food in my life after the long hike and appreciate foods again (you tend to forget this in daily life.) In early morning, you can see the layers and layers of mountain ridges covered in mist that looks exactly like the antique Oriental landscape Paintings, and Red/orange leaves filled in the mountain. If anyone visits, dont forget to take off your hiking shoes and deep your feet in the shallow creeks for a few min. It works like ice pack and the tired feet totally recovers. My husband sprained his ankle and people passing by offered muscle relief spray and dressing which was our life savior. He would not have made it back without it.

Such a beautiful park! I've been hiking in Canada and the states for a while now, but still have yet to visit this gem in my homeland. There's so much more beauty in SK, including the UNESCO natural heritage site on Jeju island with fascinating volcanic formations. South Korea is almost finished building a long distance trail that follows the entire coastal line of the country. I've done Olle Trail (around Jeju island) and Haeparang trail (on the east coast). Please go to South Korea again to show these different sites!

My first ever hike was that mountain and I had to do it in one day, so it was like a 12h hike... I slept during the breaks like a baby for 10 minutes and then up and forward. The views are worth it and starting early in the day gives you a mystic view of the start of the hike. Also finishing late at night gives you also a good view of the city if you go down on the other side of the the mountain.

Thank a lot for sharing the beautiful hiking film. I really enjoyed it. Thumbs up for the nice work of you guys. I have to mention just one thing though. Sea of Japan is not a correct name, it should be East Sea. To call the sea between Korea and Japan as Sea of Japan is just like calling the sea between Frans and England as Sea of Frans or Sea of England. Fortunately we don't do that. Because it's not reasonable to call a sea that lies between two countries as sea of one of these countries. Till Japan's annexation of Korea in the beginning of 1900, this sea was called as Sea of Corea in old maps and in some other old maps as East Sea. But to avoid a continues discussion about the name, now we call this East Sea, instead of Sea of Japan or Sea of Korea.

Thanks for the vid, enjoyed watching, reminds me of my visit when i was little. You guys should visit North Korea's KumGang Mountain as well. Close from the Seorak Mountain, but just the other side of the border. Americans are no problem visit North Korea even during the UN/US sanctions, south Koreans are not allowed. You will feel very different atmosphere because North Korean general public are not allowed to hike the mountain for fun. And your tour guide will follow you everywhere you go. There might be a hidden cam/microphone in your hotel room too, but none the less, it can be a great episode for your youtube video. You can also visit newly opened (about 6 years ago) Masikryong Ski Resort, they are open to tourists/foreigners and close from KumGang Mountain.

This reminds me of the hiking time when I was a kid. People sharing food with other hikers has been more like culture :) experiencing that as a kid (my parents used to pack so much food for a short course of hiking lolI never used to understand that before), its one of great memories of my childhood. Once the pandemic ends, the first thing I hope to do is to hike Mt. Halla in Jeju island. Thanks guys for this great great video!

North and South Korea were created at the end of WW2 when the Soviets and the UN/US agreed to split the Japanese occupied Korean peninsula into North and South with the 38th parallel as the division. After the Korean War the 38th parallel became the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). It did not happen because of a civil war. That is what makes it most tragic. After being occupied from 1907-45 by the Japanese, the Korean or Joseon people were further divided by outsiders.

Just happened to find out about your films. I enjoyed much seeing those areas of Mountain Seolak where I was too young to climb. "...the only rival to the beauty of the mountain is the kindness and openness(Jeong) of people..." I felt your sincere respect while filming the sacred Buddhist sites and your inner beauty listening to your spoken words throughout the film. Sharing foods and other things even with strangers was quite common in my memory while growing up in Korea, even in the largest busy city, Seoul. It reminded me of this fond memory....and miss and cherish it now. Thank you for brings people together closer and the time to focus on the fundamental questions, "who am I, where am I from, where am I going."
