I didn't realize just how firm comfortboard 80 was as I've only used comfortbatt. It looks like it could be laid on top of roof sheathing, have another layer of sheathing over it to nail shingles into, and have no wood in between the two layers of sheathing for reinforcement. I had thought I would need 2 by 4's in between to keep the rockwool from compressing but that may only be with comfortbatt.

Some people do that. If you do- make sure you have a vapor diffusion port at the top to allow the humidity to escape or you will trap it and rot out the structure.

@@SawHorseDesignBuild The more I look into vapor diffusion ports the more I like them since I'm in climate zone 3. I'd been wondering what material to use since I haven't seen Delta Foxx widely available, but I see Siga Magvest is available in 18'' widths at 67 perms.

That is a great question. Most of the in wall materials are for 50 db and less. If you have a band, then you might need several layers and to use other products with the safe'n'sound. We have a studio at out house and are working on the engineering right now. I'll share the final design once it is complete.

Does the comfort batt provide better sound insulation?

It is very rigid and designed for locations where you need Rigid Insulation. If you are installing between the studs/ joists then the batt insulation is best. If you are asking about comfort batt versus Safe'n'sound then it is a little thicker so has a better R-Value. I am not sure about the sound transmittence though. I've been asking many of these manufactures about the ultimate sound deadening system and I get lots of different answers. ROCKWOOL has given me good advice, however I need to use other products as well to complete the assembly and they only seem to test walls or floors and not both. Not sure why and don't get answers that make sense when I ask why.

confort batt is better for mid high frequencies due to its stiffer structure.. Safe and sound is better for low end. The looser fibers absorb low frequencies better. If your asking for a studio type installation

Who do you order your insulation from? It is a bear trying to get this product from Lowes or Home Depot. Did you order from an online merchant?

@@SawHorseDesignBuild my builder suggested using R22 comfortbat in my basement ceiling instead of the safe and sound which is only 3 inches. Will it do the same job of noise reduction?

@@mikemontana1990 Thicker is better. Safe-n-sound also comes in 6 in which is close to the same. I would also look at hat channels to separate the drywall from the framing. There is also drywall that can help with sound in addition to all of that. Not sure how much sound you are trying to block.

Would comfortboard be appropriate in basement walls behind studs and directly on concrete? And comfortbatt being used between each stud

That is a good way to create a "thermal break" between the concrete and the framing. The ideal thickness of the comfortboard would vary depending on where the house is located.

I’m in Florida ….can you do the 12 inches on the roof and use a normal rockwool insulation above the ceiling drywall like a batt… or will that create havoc in my vented attic…i dont want to use spray foam and i also want to use a OSB with a radiant barrier on it

gloves!?!? I'm X Gen... we didn't have gloves before and during most of our generation... industrialization went through its evolution without gloves. I'm sorry that I can't identify with a glove or anyone who mandates it! It's your show... and you did a great job without them! didn't even handle tools... just because you were holding it!!!???!!!

I hear you Gen X is hardcore. I had to explain to my kids that we only came home when we were hungry or when the sun came down. They did not believe our parents has PSA's that asked "do you know where you kids are?" LOL good times

hello,i am thinking to build a window insert sound panel to prevent the noise from outside, for the same thickness which is 3 inch, which one has the better sound absorption quality, the comfortboard or the safe n sound? thank you
