Michael (and others that knew him in college) always refers to how outrageously SHY he was (even up thru probably 1984-85). Sure doesn't seem like it here in 1978!!! Wtf?

@DazeyMay -- Actually, he lived in Belleville, Illinois, a small city just southeast of St. Louis. Mike Doskocil, of the band "Drunks with Guns" tells funny stories of Stipe hanging out in the University City "Loop" area (where the Varsity used to be - now it's a Vintage Vinyl music store) and hitting on other guys' GIRLFRIENDS!!

I wonder if stipes early shyness in the very early days was just an image bc he seems very willing to speak as an 18 yr old to a reporter. Or maybe being a front man of a band made him shy it's different as an unknown person talking to a reporter still though shy is shy u would think if he was a really shy person he wouldnt have been front and center very easily talking to a reporter. Anyway very cool rare clip and seeing something like thus reminds you why you tube is so great. Who ever had this tape and remembered stipe was on it is fantastic big thumbs up ! Oh and I see stipe with the painted on eye brows was used later in the mid to late 90s

Omg how cool stipe is interviewed as a regular teen at 18 before forming r.e.m. so cool!!! He was so damn beautiful in the 80s and early 90s righ those bee stung lips and that voice. I didnt know he was gay til the late 90s but I guess it's not shocking to see him there dressed up in make up already u could see he stood out as special and stunning to look at .

Newsbeat was a daily program on KSDK 5 back in the 70's! And those two dudes were really THAT SQUARE too! Michael kept destroying EVERY pic fans sent him of this🤣🤣🤣 but thanks to the internet... When in high school, about 1978/79, a few of us went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show for three consecutive Saturday nights because we heard a rumor that a rather buxom classmate of ours dressed as Janet in her underwear and we were determined to see it. Unfortunately, that rumor turned out to be false, but we had a good time nonetheless!
