This is the movie that invented the sequel business. Before Rocky II, no sequel had ever made more than the original in a series! Now it's just expected. IMO the Rocky movies are the most solid film franchise to date and would argue that even the worst Rocky movie does more to service the overall narrative than the worst MCU does. Keep in mind that the MCU has more character/plot threads to deal with, however without Rocky II showing that sequels were a profitable business, the MCU would not be possible. Great video BTW!

That's a good point. I hadn't really thought about that, but you're right. Rocky II, Empire Strikes Back and Jaws 2 were sort of the trilogy that served as a proof of concept for the profitable Hollywood sequel.

Rocky is just a magical series of films for me. As far as film sequels go, Rocky 2 is well done - taking the story that came before, continuing it and somehow (IMO) making it even better. All your favorite characters came back and they had mostly grown in some very endearing and relatable ways. The stakes, while at first glance might seem essentially the same as before are actually much higher than just a title. What was previously just a fight for glory now becomes an all-consuming matter of pride, survival and closure. Rocky and Apollo are clearly different animals this time around. Rocky is lost in the beginning; hungry, conflicted, and just seething to prove he's not just some dumb fluke of a fighter. And Apollo, pride injured and career threatened is equally seething but far more sharply focused throughout, eager to satiate his ego and prove he's undisputed. All this emotion culminates in that nail-biting climax that's just as (if not more) epic than the first. Godzilla never had a fight so grand.

It's absolutely one of the best sequels of all time.

I'd say Rocky 2 is undoubtedly my favorite of the series. While the first film is objectively better, there is nothing quite like the feeling of not only overcoming your doubts and fears but actually "winning." There's a catharsis here that the first film just doesn't provide. Rocky, not only proving that he belongs in the ring with someone like Creed, but actually beating him goes a long way towards giving me that satisfying feeling of closure. I honestly cannot watch the first film without immediately following it up with the other. The two are very much connected for me in that sense.

To be honest, since you answered why are you reviewing the Rocky movies in the last video, I had been waiting when the Eye of the Tiger shows up in this review series. :D

That's fair. There's also a bunch of shots during the fight where face and glove are clearly not making contact.
