Always enjoy and take advantage of these opportunities as much as you can. When I was coming up there is no such thing as good full suspension mountain bikes I had to do this on rigid bikes. And there weren't the trails. I have a full suspension bicycle now but I am no longer able to mountain bike like this due to age and it's funky complications but love light trail riding anyway!

I'm still jealous of your EVIL :D Glad you saw the benefit to the oval on the climbs, it does take a bit of getting used to but once you do it becomes second nature. It doesn't screw with your performance on non-oval rings either, your body just learns to deal with both :) If you find it doesn't fit quite right, try another oval manufacturer - all their specs are slightly different. I found that the absoluteBLACK worked best for how I pedal.

Phil, what happened with the build? were you able to use the oval chain ring?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was. The next day I was going to try and figure out a solution and I just decided to try again. The chainring rubbed, but after a few pedal strokes backward it wore a tiny grove into the plastic chain guide. During the build I thought it was rubbing more than it was and I didn't want to damage the carbon.

Fantastic trail to really break the evil in. Sadly most bikes i test rode before settling on the giant trance a year and a half ago. is that they are either fantastic climbers or great decenders. Nothing really out there that is well balanced that i have tried. I ended up with the trance because it will climb anything well, I did compromise on the downs but i have started to dial myself in with the bike to overcome some of its defeciancies.

Tell me about the XT gears you are using. I am building my full sus, but cannot decide between getting a second hand xx1 or something like a xo1 or get a brand new XT, its not that much of a problem, but obviously xx1 would cost alot more and I'm only 17 so a part time job for me. I found a xx1 shifter and rear mech for around 200 dollars while the new xt group has a casette, chain, shifter and a mech at around 170 dollars. Is it worth the extra time and money I should put and delay the build ?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
+dartwadermovies booth XT and the SRAM equivalent are fine. Neither really excited me. I like the feel of SRAM levers but I don't like SRAMs XD driver and the associated cost. XT was cheaper and if I need to I can change the rear cassette without breaking the bank.

Yeah! I like the Evil..... This might sound stupid.... but.... any question coming from me is worth asking. lol..... dont laugh at me... but What is the purpose... the reason for using oval sprocket? Thanks in advance for the answer.....
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
+Bill Turner essentially to equalize power output. You only have two legs so each time you push down you have a bit of a dead zone before your other leg can follow up. The oval helps fill in the gaps.
@billturner23607 жыл бұрын
Wow.... now that makes perfect sense to me. So its a tech thing. It has been on my mind sense watching you build the bike the other night live. Really... on my mind. I was thinking that it would have something to do with holding the cranks from spinning when tricking off jumps for easy return to pedals with feet or something of that sort. Thanks for the answer..... now I know..... cool
