I live near Breckenridge. We now call Summit County Denver West. The traffic is awful, crime is increasing (although lots of it is covered up for the tourists) and they are building city style condos like crazy. I’ve been here for 33 years and am wondering where to move next.

I remember when I first moved to Colorado and we'd go up to Summit County in the summertime to get great deals on hotels since no one visited in the summer months. Every year I think about moving home but the price of housing, the overall vibe of the city and how crowded it all seems is a huge deterrent. My dad and brothers, maybe because they've been there the whole time, don't seem to think its so bad. I am worried that there may be some sort of regulation on your well usage. Is that the case, and what do you know about them monitoring your usage?
@OffGridBackcountryAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hi JK, I apologize if the video wasn't clear...I was actually referring to the well in town. There was a coin operated well in Seligman where folks could go and get water. Those are all being regulated now. The wells located in communities are still unmonitored. I've not heard any talk about that changing however I'll keep everyone posted if there are any new developments.

There were thousands of people on drugs walking around like zombies on drugs and going to the bathroom everywhere, and graffiti on all the store's windows and walls. It is so scary that nobody is doing anything about these situations. I fear for the future of America. If anybody thinks the people in Washington DC care, you are sadly mistaken. My Guy & I moved the heck out of Colorado in 2020 at the start of the "covid" thing. We're happy that we did. Too much too much of it all. TOO expensive to live & they have taken the politics to a totally new level. Weed did contribute to the problem but it was also people from other states like Cali, NY, WA etc etc... When this wave of people came with their money and their politics it changed everything. It was a beautiful place to be. Everywhere that we used to go to get away and enjoy the great outdoors were just crowded with people. We were living right on the front range not far from Boulder and Longmont. We know exactly what you're talking about.. Yes we have nightmare stories about HOA and (trying to buy property) We literally went from house to house where there were those willing to go 30k over asking price. No; they can have it. Much happier in our little place in the middle of no where USA. We also escaped most of the brutality of the lock downs. Just the first part of the insanity was enough. Lots of working homeless in CO. It's like a disease; they have ruined the Colorado Rocky Mountain High for us. best to you. thanks

From what ive seen the area up where you live has reasonably priced real estate. Hopefully i can get down there and check things out when i get squared away here. Hey Tom, hope you are enjoying time with your son! Yeah, it's just too populated in Colorado...however my perspective is one from 25 years ago. I moved to Colorado in 1998 and I could cruise from my office in the Tech Center at 5pm to my apartment downtown at 17th and Grant - it would only take me 15 minutes. Today that same drive takes well over an hour. I noticed the writing on the wall years ago and that's why I started living in my truck. The goal was to find another place to settle down. I never thought I'd end up in AZ but the cost of land, the solitude, and the "Live and Let Live" mindset is what pulled me in. I love it out here, Northern AZ has a lot to offer! I wish you the best of luck in finding your slice of heaven. ~ Brian

We are exploring Colorado hard right now and you can still find dispersed camping that is amazing and not overrrun. I worry though that in just a few years even those places will be as crowded as anything along the front range. I lived in Colorado from 83-93 and then moved back in 07. It is nuts all the change over the years. I never say where our spots are specifically located on social media but people who recognize a spot are like oh that’s… I just take my posts down now if that happens. I just may stop altogether. I think honestly that everyone does deserve to see the beauty and awe of Colorado but people just aren’t taking care of the land and with so many people out here it won’t stop. More and more areas will become reserved and fee based through these companies that the forest service is hiring. I don’t know if we will stay here or look elsewhere but what you’re doing, having a permanent spot and ability to travel, is probably what we will do.

Came back to Colorado one last time in August to see if I could afford a place anywhere north to northeast of Denver. Unfortunately, I struck out. Also, Denver seems to have finally become a very large city that is not enjoyable to live, with an array of housing going up everywhere. I enjoyed Denver and Colorado for over 40 years, but it is finally time to say goodbye...

Hi Steve, I feel the same way about Denver. I moved there in 1998 and things were quite different back then. I absolutely loved my time there but saw the writing on the wall and had to make a change. I hope you've found a new landing spot which that's treating you well. Wishing you nothing but the best in your future endeavors. Take care ~ Brian

Thanks Brian! We corresponded briefly a few months back since I am about to move to Arizona. I will probably move south of Tucson since my folks love there. However, I really love nw Arizona where you are. You were very helpful in showing me the area around where you live.. Thank you again and maybe we'll meet up soon as my journey continues.. Cheers and all the best. Steve Jordan

W Slope counties who have traditionally had waaaay fewer regulations are fighting tooth & nail to stop new codes that will destroy small farmers & small businesses. CO is indeed being loved to death, & it's really difficult to watch this happen to my beloved childhood home.

That's how people are in Cortez, Co. My family and I lived out there 5yrs ago. When we went to put money down for deposit on renting a house the excuses were made. "We already rented it" "it's actually not going to be rented" those kinds of excuses. Then we find out that in order for someone to rent you a place, you have to know somebody that knows somebody, that knows somebody. But we loved living out there me,my daughter and her husband were making good money, but we missed home. So we moved back to the Ozarks.

I LOVE the Ozarks! We used to go down there often when I was a kid growing up in SE Kansas. All the springs and historic mills along Highway 60 are so cool!

Yeah, Im about your age and have been fishing the rio grande and san juan nf's for 25 plus years. Something really changed in the last 4 or 5 years, it literally feels like double the people are out there theses days, city rigs decked to the teeth speeding to and from in a whirlwind of garbage, cigarette butts, broken bottles and soiled toilet paper. It's the worst I've seen it the last 2 years or so. The easy and more accessible the mountains got the more it bought out people who just don't care.
@OffGridBackcountryAdventures11 ай бұрын
I too have notice a massive uptick in the areas I fish. Those areas used to be my solitude but now they are full of people. I realize all things change but man it sure turned on a dime. Seems like this all took place overnight and I was floored at how fast it all happened. My secret for finding good fishing spots these days is to hit up Indian Reservations where they allow recreation. I've noticed they put a lot of effort into caring for their rivers and fish which is refreshing to see!

By our nature- speaking generally- humans ruin anything and everything good and pure. Those of us who care and have tried to improve our nature find it very depressing- I carry burdens all day every day that I can only commit to God- when I'm able to release them. It's difficult to live now- mentally. The priorities and carelessness of people overwhelms me.

I feel the same way and that's why I chose to settle in a very rural area where there aren't that many people. I almost have to shut out the rest of the world in my mind and just focus on the land I have in front of me. I'm making this place an oasis and can't wait until things start to warm up this spring so I can start Phase 2 of my homestead transformation. I'm very fortunate to have my little slice of heaven out here far away from the dark undercurrents of today's cities.

Yep, Denver is rapidly going downhill. Downtown is unsafe, homeless and panhandlers everywhere. Most recently, in addition to panhandlers, they recently got some sketchy characters desperately trying to clean your windshield. I moved out of Denver to Phoenix a couple of years ago, and I like it here; however unfortunately, in my opinion, Phoenix is just as expensive as Denver, with similar problems. I find politics on both sides to be pretty bad, only caring about their election cycle, and not so much about actual communities. In my opinion, we as the public, the community, failed to make things better.
