Hi, I couldn't agree more with your closing comments. The paperwork with the Z21 tells you how wonderful it is and its potential capabilities. But, as you say, basically it's advertising. Buyers face a shortage of instructions on how to actually operate it. For instance, which buttons to 'press' and, importantly, in what sequence, to programme a loco and its functions. Maybe something was lost in the translation from German to English? It needs a basic 'how to' to be included in the manual. I realise the Z21 is aimed at experienced DCC users but when I bought it 12 months ago the Z21 was all that was available. It was a steep Iearning curve as I'd never had a tablet either so I was new to both. Judging by the number of hits on You Tube's Z21 sites I think a lot of people had the same problems as me. There are some very useful videos on YT. I'm still not sure what two of the screens are for, so I just use it as a basic controller and although my German locos run fine I'm still trying to work out how to get my US sound steam and diesel locos working on it. I think the US configures its DCC differently though Roco say the Z21 is NMRA compliant. Having said all that, I like the system.

So glad to see usage videos on the Z21 that are not marketing. My interests into the systems are about the multi-protocol ports on the back. Would you be interested in showing a video of the Loconet throttle support and that really cool Sniffer Port in operation, say with an NCE command station? I'm trying to figure out if simultaneous operation is possible between Loconet throttles, Lenz throttles, iPad, and sniffer bus (NCE command station). If this works, I will not only migrate to this system, but get the other west coast Free-mo groups to invest into the system as well! Chris P.

I put a lot of free videos on KZbin...I applaud your passion to share your knowledge. You might consider importing your recordings into Camtasia Studio to edit out as many "uh uh", "um" and going asides as you can. You can also use CStudio while recording and pause occasionally to regroup.
