I was in Bass Pro Shops with a friend that was there to buy a rod. I had every one of the same rod off the rack while I was splining them for him. Most did not line up with the guides at all so clearly they do not spline them at the factory. When I took the rod building course at Muds Hole they pointed out that some rods have two or more splines but that one is always the most prominent. Good video!

Many custom rod makers now ignore spine. If you're going to concentrate on it at least go over guide placement on the spine for spinning vs. casting rods.

Do you put your casting guides on the inside of the curve our opposite? There is some conflicting information out there. Just curious as to what you do. Great video.

Hey Captain Lee I started my first rod using the DMX Winn grip handles. I was reaming the butt piece and accidentally went right through the end. Any suggestions on what I can do to seal the end?

You can fill it with epoxy paste and then sand it smooth. You can use an enamel paint to color epoxy, like the testors model paint, if you want the epoxy to match the grip. Just add a few drops at a time while you are mixing.

It might be useful if both of your microphines are working.
