ROD BUILDING, TYING TRIM BANDS WITH GUIDE WRAPS

This is my current favourite method of tying trim bands while wrapping guide feet. I am using a Neon colourfast thread as it is part of the tip section of pier fishing rod, this type thread also doesn't need any colour protection coating before resin is applied. What great about this method is trim band is dealt with first and then black thread added after to cover the tag ends. I still find this a little tricky when i am tying by hand but with a bit of practice i am getter a Little faster. It has to said that there are probably more than twenty ways to to get the same result and probably better but that is rod building it is not a one trick pony.

My grandfather was a master rod builder . Mostly spinning rods . He used to do mostly fenwick blanks . That was almost fifty years ago. Taught me the craft and I built one of the first ugly stick blanks for myself I actually have most of the rods he built for family plus the couple I built .

It is we had a summer home on middle bass island in Lake Erie winters we built rods to sell, raffle or donate , poured and painted lead headed jigs to use or sell as well as tied our own snelled hooks or bent spreaders for perch for the coming year I actually have the 1946 14 ft Arkansas traveler we used to roam the western basin of Lake Erie in all the way to the Canadian line in my back yard and am slowly refurbishing those were good times

Pretty cool that, I had a whole daiwa moonraker done like that after I blanked it, with fuji glow in the dark eyes, then an adjustable Abu reel seat so I can butt cast it, wicked rod now.

I have been making fishing rods since I was 14 years old I noticed that all the fishing rods have snapped with the fishing guide direct on to blank,need a base to stop that. Good job Thank You

i spend part of my week making matching replacement rod tips for broken fishing rods in a factory, thankfully it is not many and it is very rare to find a rod broken under the guide or foot most of the few rods that break, break between the tip top and first or second guide, these are long range carp rods with no underwraps but it may be different for lure rods.
