His face and his presence that I remembered. But as you were showing stills and posters, I was going I've seen that and I remember that scene. Tony Cameron's remembrances were just so straight forward and matter of fact, that you got a real feel for what his and that life was like. There weren't many boys who wouldn't remember Jill St. John in a bikini, but most of us only experienced it on a screen and not in real life. As always a great episode, that I enjoyed viewing.

ROD CAMERON with his deep commanding voice sure made a good many westerns, sadly not so much the "A" kind though, but he was not alone in that regard. It's good to hear his son relate his experiences on his father's sets, and its good that he has such a great sense of humor about it, especially when you Rob surprised him with the mother and mother in-law marriages. Tony also has the right attitude talking about his Dad and the alcoholism as well as all the movies that he made long before he was born. He certainly was brought up right, I think he should gather up his stories for a book on his father because he has great recall and knows how to engage your interest. THE BOUNTY KILLER and REQUIM FOR A GUNFIGHTER were the kind of cheap-n-cheerful oaters that the legendary A.C. Lyles used to produce over at Paramount, getting all the old western heroes together and giving them work. It's a pity the scripts were so poor and didn't give the old stars a bit more dignity in their roles. ROD CAMERON's career was certainly diverse and without doubt, he worked in HOLLYWOOD when it really had class!
@TonyCameron-dg4eh Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words and appreciation for dads work ! Yes you need a sense of humor !
@grahamhill6340 Жыл бұрын
THANK YOU, Tony... it's not easy being a child of a movie star and believe me I came across quite a few having spent 40 years working in HOLLYWOOD doing various jobs from studio-driver to writer and studio historian. I gave special tours of movie location and movie ranches, knew many of the stunt men and crew who's names I noticed on the credits growing up. Like I mentioned you really should write a book even if you have to self-publish, I wrote so many articles on HOLLYWOOD over the years, and I've always included the Good, Bad and the Ugly of any history, otherwise what's the point of sugar-coating it, we're lied too enough already! So many actors, especially in 'B' movies and westerns had an alcohol problem, even the big stars like Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the Duke... with stuntmen it helped ease the pain from all those horse-falls and alike. It also eased the disappointments in so many careers in this feast or famine business! Again, keep that honest sense of humor Tony, it'll serve you well in life!@@TonyCameron-dg4eh

This was an awesome upload of one of my favorite western stars. Can't really explain it but he and Tim Holt were always high on my "good guys" list for their acting. Of course Mr Cameron was just doing his job and acting but his portrayals of characters with an easy going calm demeanor, made him easy to like as a kid. Was always excited to know (even now) that one of his shows or movies was coming on. BTW , It broke my heart as a kid when I saw him on an episode of Laramie where he fooled everyone and was really a bad guy.

In Rod's day almost all the western stars were tall. Pretty much a requirement in fact. Jim Arness 6'7", Clint Walker 6'6", Chuck Connors and Fess Parker at 6'5" making John Wayne and Rod at just 6'4" almost a pair uh runts. The most anomalous exception to that being Alan Ladd of course who had to stand on a box and a pair of phone books just to reach 5'10". Yeah, Rod is sorta well known for having married his mother in-law, and Tony's illusidating on that... his grandma being his step mom was sorta funny and sweet at the same time. That screen shot of those comic books titled, "Rod Cameron Western" got me curious to do some research. Turns out Fawcett published 20 issues featuring a fictionalized version of Rod published in England of all places, sold for a dime. And Rod years later at a film convention reflecting on that mentioned how the company used to send him several issues of the comic each month, and thinking not much of it how he'd just give 'em away to the neighborhood kids. Then years later seeing some of those issues one or two of the rarer ones being sold by dealers for hundreds of dollars each.

That was an awesome picture of Rod Cameron and the Lone Ranger. Was it during a break between filming with shows on the same lot?

That was taken in 1979 during the taping of the ABC special, When the West Was Fun. That's me standing between Clayton and Iron. What a wonderful time we all had during that shoot.

@@AWordonWesterns That's so awesome! The picture disappeared too quickly for me - I didn't have time to recognize Iron eyes and you initially. You are envied for sure.

Talking about Alias Smith and Jones, will there be a time where Ben Murphy will be on the channel?

Great suggestion, Jake. Will try. Thanks.

Another great interview, Rob, and about another actor I am a fan of. Rod Cameron had a screen presence and a slightly gruff voice that one just noted. You mention a lot of other good actors too. I must disagree with one part; Yvonne De Carlo was still sexy as Lily Munster. My favorite role of hers was as a mulatto mistress to Clark Gable in a movie which I cannot recall the title. 👍👍🤔

Thanks, Bill. You're thinking of BAND OF ANGELS. Directed by Raoul Walsh and an early role for Sidney Poitier.

@@AWordonWesterns Thanks, Rob. I will check it out. My daughter said that I have given her two of our favorite movies: "Destry Rides Again" with Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" with Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison, and George Sanders. I told her she was wrong, as if I had those on DVD, I would never have parted with them. 🤔😄😀🙄

Would love to know how Rod wound up in Gainesville, Georgia, living on Cameron Circle at Lake Lanier.

Thanks for watching the show ! I was visiting a girl I met in spring training who was a swimmer at Brenau and dad was on his way to NC to film a movie . He was asked to do a 3 day weekend television show and loved the lake and sailing and bought a home since the industry was moving south .
