The most important person in Carp fishing. In the 70's he was ahead of everyone. RIP Rod.

I have to add to the "what has Rod Hutchinson done for carp fishing" thing! This man was using certain going bait, tactics, rigs, watercraft, tackle and methods years before anyone else! his willingness to share his vast knowledge with the "carp world" enabled carp anigling to take a huge lead forward! Thats what Rod Hutchinson has done for carp angling. Other Pioneers include Fred Wilton and his "theories"

Yes Rod is probably pissed, you should read his book The Carp Strikes Back. In it he says "If you're too drunk to cast just chuck it in the edge".

I think you're right, he certainly sounds pissed, absolute legend though, unique ❤

He's an innovator, one of the first to use particle and he thought of using PVA years before anyone knew what it was! yes Rod does look like a bum but he is a legend! And who said we have to do anything for carp fishing? if Rod Hutchinson has done nothing for carp fishing, "which he has" then he probably couldnt be arsed! The thing thats so great about the man is the fact that he doesnt follow the crowd! he is a true pioneer and does it his own way, he dosen' need to do anything for the sport.

I've just managed to get some of rod's own supply of scopex,it smells amazing, just as I remember it,he was a gentleman, it's a shame a certain person took the Mickey out of him,he was one of anglings great heroes

@@pvinnie.73 yep, such a nice sweet creamy unique flavour that was practically a carp magnet, we were just kids with no money so we had to settle for richworth honey yucatan frozen boilies, which we’re also a going bait, I think the 80s / early 90s were the best years, just so much mystery and secrecy, I loved it 👍. Who took the piss out of hutch? Was it Nash?

did he create tactics that are used now that were created solely by him and would not exist now if it wasnt for him? or create a certain bait that wasnt even known (not flavour but the actual bait)... what did he do that makes him this magic legend? Or was it just that he worked out tactics and became a great carper catching big carp regular and his tactics are just so good everyones using them? did he create the pop up or what. Just wondering why he is so much more than the other legends lol

Don't be fooled about his appearance in this video. Sadly the alcohol got the better of him in the end but before that he was a freight train of wild thoughts and crazy effective developments. He wasn't building on other people's experiences either, because there were none in the radically different directions he took. If you dig into the history of carp bait and the history of carp fishing you will soon acknowledge that what this 'old wino' once did was indeed mind blowing and we ALL owe a hell of lot of our captures to him, including our most recent ones. Today you can't buy as good additives as he once developed and sold for love nor money. In many ways we are regressing, not progressing since Hutchy. He developed or was the first to use birdfood baits, robin red, scopex, monster crab, maple cream, chocolate malt, mulberry florentine, nouvelle fizz, megaspice, ultraspice, shellfish sense appeals (and the others awesome sense appeals), appetite stimulators, taste enhancers, predigested fishmeals, modern fishmeal baits, modern particle fishing (hammering them on hemp as a first for instance), bait solubility, 12 foot carp rods (only up to 10' before him), serious carp bivvies - and that is just scratching the surface of all he knew and developed. And all while doing this, he humbly shared most of his findings with the carp angling community, without claiming to know it all and with brilliant humor too. As I said utterly incredible and why so many carp anglers regard the man extremely highly.
