Once flew a microlight along the Humber Estuary around Immingham in 2008/2009, and shocked to witness a ship anchored at a jetty pumping black pollution into the Humber, took a photograph, and on landing, reported it to the Environmental Authorities. This was during the Blair era, and the cabinet people on security and defence were inventing laws as fast as they could think them up. Later received a severe ticking off from a man in charge at the docks, apparently John Reid or colleague in Blair's team made photographing ports and strategic sites illegal. When I raised this on a flying website to warn others, an Instructor mailed to reveal that the UK Civil Aviation Authority require all marine pollution incidents be reported to local Air Traffic and if possible, photographs taken as evidence...

You're allowed to photograph ANYTHING you can see from a public space (provided you don't break indecency laws). That includes airports, army bases, police stations, houses, shops, banks, offices, schools, whatever. Permission isn't needed. You also don't need to provide id unless you're being arrested and charged with a named offence. You can't change the law to suit your personal preference. If you don't want someone looking through your window for some strange reason then stick up some curtains pal.
@reb0118 Жыл бұрын
That is generally correct. However there are certain locations that have specifically laws against unauthorised photography so one does not have absolute permission to film everywhere from a public place.

Most newly recruited police constables have a degree these days yet they know less about the law than ever and have less common sense than ever.

They take advantage of the citizen not knowing the law or their guidelines.

Atlas Shrugged yes well this position being filled by a non British National,is probably in order to match some target or other,such as having certain percentage of employees being From a certain background to show there is no discrimination.But if say ten vacancies out of hundred are unfilled and the 90 vacancies have been filled by British Nationals, but they need 10percent to be of non British Nationals the applicants left are 30 peaple who ten of which are non British,(but not as qualified) you can guarantee that the under qualified 10 non British will get the position just to match policy!!!Now I'm not saying discriminate against non British but surely this" positive discrimination" is discrimination and the qualified applicants who don't fit the "criteria"will not feel positive about this policy at all.The policies become self serving for politically motivated arguments regarding the need for immigrants to prop up our industries.This could end up being a self prophetic situation.Crazy,then we're told we live in a meritocracy!!Personally I don't blame immigrants they are just trying to better their lives.But the effects of these policies create tensions,housing is another example and.i bet the same methods are used.Im not saying my percentages etc are correct but you can get my meaning.I wonder what the actual reasons behind policies are. I'm sure if researched properly you could find real reasons for policies. Especially if looked at over a wide variety of areas such as impact regarding voting results and if they effect other polices.Got to look at bigger picture to find possibilities and truth.

Why do you say that these people have 'power'? They are all public servants, from the gardener in the local park right up to the latest tenant of Downing Street. The power all resides in the public. We hire these people to do what they are supposed to be doing, not to harass law-abiding members of the public going about their lawful business. It is all very well being civil and calling them 'sir' and such, but it is really the wrong way to deal with such wombles. As members of the public we require them to do the jobs we pay them to do and NO MORE. As soon as they step outside the remit we have given them, and that we pay them for, they cease to be public servants and become public nuisances. Next time one of these idiots approaches you for filming in a public place, no doubt claiming that it is the property of some council, they need to be told, in no uncertain terms, that councils own NOTHING. The central government owns NOTHING. Anything they think they own is public property. It is paid for from public funds, it is maintained from public funds, it is public property. There are NO laws in the UK that prevent photography, still or moving images, in any public place. It is a lawful activity and everyone has the right to partake of it. There are NO powers in the UK to prevent photography in any public place, and anything in or visible from any public place is fair game. If they don't want you to film their building the solution is very simple - get it out of public view. I suggest Groom Lake, Area 51 in the Nevada desert in the USA - that isn't visible from any public place (except Google Earth) and will serve their purpose. Not sure what the US government will say about that, but that isn't our problem, it is theirs. .

I film out on the streets of London a lot. I was going out to film today but the weather is being an arse! I very rarely get stopped by the police or anybody else for that matter. But if the police do question me ( and I'm not trespassing ) I tell them why I'm filming and also tell them all they have to do is ask me, and I will tell them anything else they want to know about me. Every time I have said this ( including outside Downing St ) they go away and leave me alone. If its a security guard I tell them to go away and mind their own business. That works too.
