The late, great Rod Serling. The human race will never see his like again.
@jayc24697 жыл бұрын
Seconded. I often wonder whether it was public knowledge at the time, that Rod narrated a lot of the classified atomic weapons test films post WWII? It was also around the time of Twilight Zone original broadcasts

Theres intellectuals in the modern age. You just have to look hard to find them, as theyre not big celebrity names.

It's weird: I'm an adamant twilight zone fan. I have the whole collection so I'm used to Rod Serling narrating in his educated, wordy way. So when he said, "I just fucked up" -I cracked up!! RIP Rod. Your the greatest!

Yeah I think one of the funniest bloopers I ever heard was Rod Serling in this video 3:06
@robertepervary264 Жыл бұрын
Serling brings his usual professional integrity, demeanor, good humor and famous voice to this endeavor; but he is no match for the cheap, subpar production values here.
@michaelquebec665310 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Early 1960's suits (and for that matter, late '50's suits) were way sharper than '70's clothes.
@holliemitchell64167 жыл бұрын
there is no depth for my love and admiration for this man. He had such a wonderful beautiful mind. Why can't they make great shows like Twilight Zone and Night Gallery anymore?💙👻❤❤

Love Rod Serling! What a LEGEND! Easily the most creative man in TV history. His stress level seems to have increased after 'The Twilight Zone' was cancelled. He seemed lost and without direction. Then again, after being involved in the most seminal and best TV series in history, how could you top that immense achievement?!

I just read that in his voice for some reason.

"let's ask one of the greatest TV writers of all time to ride around on a fake bike and wax poetic about being a good citizen and stopping pollution." What a weird, weird time the 70s were.

Serling has always been an iconic producer and narrator no matter what.

Rod Serling seemed like he was patient and very nice...not like he was egotistical at all...what a good writer and creative genius.

Hearing Rod Serling swear is something that should be in an episode of "The Twilight Zone". Surreal.
@Noveltooner13 жыл бұрын
It would be great to see the hilarious Paul Lynde-Rod Serling commmercial for the late Manufacturers Hanover Trust, which ends with Lynde's leaving the bank branch as the disgruntled, critical New Yorker hilariously saying, "You know something, you're all being very nice…and I DON'T LIKE IT!!!" Then, Serling announces, "New York…the city of eight million critics; but Manufacturers Hanover is trying. It's banking the way you want it to be."
@ericinwisconsin12 жыл бұрын
It's bizarre to see Serling on a bike. The man was a great writer, but lived a VERY unhealthy lifestyle that ruined his health. He died way too early.

Ok, am I the only one who thought Serling was gonna say, "...Smell a fart..." at 0:53? LOL!!!!!!!! Maybe so.
@ErichH684 жыл бұрын
Not his fault. He was nearly flawless however the people who he was working for weren’t. It’s great that our water is clean and air is now clear. Time for China to do the same! The more I see Mr. Serling the more I admire and respect him.
@godzilla2011able13 жыл бұрын
@notvalidcharacters I Agree. People should use terms like " blooper" in an accurate way. But I really enjoyed watching these PSA's BUT there was only one misreading "and I just fucked up the whole reading" [THAT is a real LOL] , and, yet he was still professional and remarked "and I want to apologize for that". Thanks for sharing these rare out-takes....

The sad thing is, the earth is much polluted now than it was back in the 1970's :(
@rydertodd118 жыл бұрын
you mean much cleaner than the 70's...

I would say that, in the US anyway, the air and water quality is better than 50 years ago. The biggest "pollution" is population. Very few truly wild places anywhere.

I wish we had another Rod Serling writing today.... Unlike most of you I love the 70's clothes...sure beats today's corporate (everyone must look alike) mentality. From Cars, music and styles...they were all over the place in the 70's unlike now.

well, no kidding. It's the WAY they're having Serling do it...I don't see Bono riding around in front of a blue screen on a stationary bike sounding like Mr. Rogers on acid. Anyway, pollution is bad.

I recall a Rod Serling anti-drug Public Service Announcement (PSA), with an image of a syringe growing larger & larger and a young man becoming smaller & smaller. I wonder if that Serling PSA still exists, and is also, perhaps, somewhere on You Tube? Does anyone out there in "The Zone" recall that Serling spot?

@ExplorerDS6789 you're correct. I was thinking of some ad I saw years ago & thought they put his picture in there with Bogart & a bunch of others that died from smoking but I guess I was mistaken. But the term cardio-pulmonary does mean heart-lung and they are pretty related. Lastly, I have no problem with smoking. Just wish Rod wasn't gone so soon. I'm a big TwilightZone/NightGallery fan & have all of them.

@ChrisFrenchComedy What you are seeing has nothing to do with "Editing" ...It 's a Video "Chroma Key" using either a Blue or green screen.
@racookster14 жыл бұрын
Ironic. Serling wrote "Requiem for a Heavyweight," which ended with Anthony Quinn as a once-great boxer humiliating himself by dancing around in an Indian costume in fake wrestling matches. And here is Serling doing... kinda the same thing. I'm still laughing out loud at, "...but then again, maybe we can't." :-D
@torgman16 жыл бұрын

The reason we've made any steps toward cleaning things up is people like this. As for you saying the Chinese are causing the problem today - there is a Chinese environmental movement, and a movement to regulate industry. They've discovered what unbridled Capitalism does to us. We're all in this together. Thanks, Rod.

I'm gonna guess that he did these PSA's for Ithaca College, where he taught. The production is painfully amateurish.
@rleary113 жыл бұрын
...Ride a bike...(er, don't smoke cigarettes etc.).. Rod Serling was brilliant but I believed he died from Lung Cancer from excessive smoking of nicotine so this ad is kind of ironic. One of the coolest talented dudes on the planet and was gone way too early.

@dicarlo57 you know..many people own guns and die by guns..but many people dont own guns and still die by guns......perhaps its not the gun that is dangerous..OH no wait im wrong.....just because ur right about ppl who dont smoke and get cancer doesnt mean cigarettes are not bad. And if someone cares enough about the human race to try and lengthen someones life or make them feel better in any way you should be thankful those people still exist.
@helencheddar14 жыл бұрын
sooo ironic! Didn't he smoke like a chimney?

This is just a taping. This isn't the final product--besides, FX get worse the farther back in time you go. This ad isn't about the special effects--it's about nature itself.
