I'm astonished how little space this song has in Rod's legacy. I mean, just listen to the crowd sing along at every live performance... Underrated! And there's a real story in the lyrics that gives another dimension to this masterpiece!

Transcendent is the word that came to mind for me when I first really listened to the solo on this. I never even knew who played it, even though I had this album at home as a kid. My sister absolutely adored him. Heidi passed away in 2010 from a heroin overdose. Hurt doesn't describe the pain I felt for my beautiful sweet smart tough tender fragile big sister. My best friend was given a dog a few years ago while he was going through a rough time homeless. He asked me what I thought a good name was? I said kinda not sure, Heidi? He said yeh that's cool. Heidi saved our lives. Thx sis.

I was a student at what was City of London Polytechnic in late 70s. Coming from Tanga TZ this song used to remind me of some of my antics back home sneaking late at night. I said to myself I was not alone. A great composition by Rod.

When I was in my first band, we covered this song. I was still young (19, I think...) and I tried to be as convincing as possible that I understood the pain that this song conveys. The truth is that I could absolutely relate to some of it (yes, even the girl named 'Suzie'...mine was 'Susan'). In some ways, we have all been the protagonist in this song. Rod Stewart is amazing.

Giving love is not my strongest point. If that's the case it's pointless going on. I'd rather be alone
