The older I get, the more I appreciate Rod Stewart. He is truly an exceptional artist. He has lasted all of these years because he is timeless. He can sing anything and sound incredible.

In the UK this was used for the theme to a documentary about HMS Ark Royal and the men serving on her back in the 1970's, it was a big hit with this tie in.

I personally witnessed this tour at a world series of rock concert at Cleveland Stadium with 5 major acts: Mahogany Rush, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep and then the headliner, Rod Stewart. I was not a fan, was forever after this show. What a stage presentation! It was truly a real eye opener for the whole bunch of us. This tour broke him into the big time there after/thanx

Good track and the next year he would put out that monster album Night on the Town. Rod was hot in the seventies.

No question this is a monster hit by a quality artist , even though it’s been appropriated by the ‘other’ football team in Glasgow 👀.. I forgive the song and its singer .. it’s that good 👌 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If you liked this then I would recommend Stewart's "Seems Like A long Time" or Van Morrison's "Brand New Day". They all have a bit of a gospel vibe.

The two years since The Faces' Oo La La album has really been a change for Rod Stewart. The same thing happened to other great UK artists like Dave Mason after moving to L.A., and becoming more middle of the road with the music. I'd rather go back to the days when Ron Wood was in the band, with rowdy rockers like "Borstal Boys".

.."Sailing" was written and recorded by the Sutherland Brothers - a duo consisting of Gavin and Iain Sutherland - in a June 1972 session, best known as a 1975 international hit for Rod Stewart. ... "Sailing" was recorded by Rod Stewart for his first album recorded in North America rather than Great Britain: Atlantic Crossing, which was recorded April - June 1975 at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio with Tom Dowd producing. The first single from the album, "Sailing" was an international hit, notably in the UK, where it was number one for four weeks in September 1975. It returned to the UK chart in 1976 and, with less success, in 1987. "Sailing" remains Stewart's biggest single hit in the UK, but was not a top 40 hit in his newly adopted US homeland. Rod Stewart is a great LEGEND in music, and is ...Sir Rod STEWART!...God bless you Rod !...

Although I prefer Rod's earlier work, this was a huge track in the UK. I didn't realise just how many US soul stars he had playing on the album. Booker T, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Al Jackson made up the band Booker T and the MGs. Apart from having hits like Green Onions and releasing a string of great records, Booker T and the MGs acted as the house band for Stax Records in Memphis, backing a host of soul greats on that legendary label. Originally written and recorded by the Sutherland Brothers, 'Sailing' wasn't written as a romantic song, but in reference to a spiritual journey through life on the way to eternal life with God. So the gospel feel is fitting. Rod didn't initially want to release this track as the lead single from the album, preferring one of his own compositions. The label got it right in this instance though.

This is a cover of the the original Sutherland Brothers song- written by them and not by Stewart as people tend think. Their version is more original with the drum taking a more prominent stance - worth a listen to.

This was used as a theme for a reality series on UK TV about the crew and ship of HMS Ark Royal and as such was inescapable in my childhood. Pretty much a sell out move that killed his credibility. Then you had his disco dalliances before re started doing somewhat good things again before he lapsed into full on crooner!

I can't think of anything positive to say about this track at all. Very plodding and repetitive when you look at it closely and it doesn't really do much past the main theme and concept. All together, quite yawn inducing.

A bland, soppy, not to mention overly sentimental ditty. Massively overplayed here, largely due it being used as the theme to a (essentially) reallity show..
