Thanks Beth. I grew up on Mr. Stewart's music, and watching you enjoy it, makes it even better...if that's even possible. Have a great day now.

His music always reminds me of going to my grandmother’s southern Baptist church. His arraignments and melodies are so much like the hymns they would sing. Which makes sense since the area was settled by the Scotch-Irish who brought their traditional gospel and folk music with them.

This was so emotionally used during the Falklands Conflict. I was also overseas at the time and it was such an emotional song to hear when you are far away from your loved ones.

Joined the German navy in 1979. And we played this to death as well, sometimes on a Sunday over the ship's p.a. system, when you were far away from home. 'Sailing' also accompanied the endless diving in and out of the waves very nicely. Check out the BBC's 'Sailor' where this was used as an intro.

His catalog until that album, that's where he was the real deal, not yet the superstar Rod, but the authentic singer and performer who had so many great songs with Jeff Beck and the Faces. And his first 4 solo albums, each is a gem and especially "Every picture tells a story". Then stardom came...

Jeff Beck took him from being a club singer to a Star, The Faces and satay With Me, make him a super star, and disco almost ruined his career, in the early 80’s he changed his image, look at type of song he recorded and revived back on top. Great talent, but almost lost it,

My favorite era of his. When it was good. He was my moms favorite and one of my top 5. She died when I was 17 so his songs are heartbreaking and cathartic for me.

Over the years the British navy has had a warship of some description called Ark Royal. Since WW2 it has been an aircraft carrier & the ship that sailed in 60s & 70s was featured in a TV series called Warship & was one of the first to be filmed on an active naval ship. This was used as the theme music.

A beautiful song! I couldn't listen it for a long time, when I heard it on the radio, I turned it off, not because I didn't like the song, on a contrary. My friend, a glider pilot was killed in an accident and we burried him with this song playing and four sailplanes whistling above us. It was May 3rd 1983. This song brought too much emotions, but now I can enjoi the song again. It still brings emotions, but manageable. Thanks, Beth!

I was never a fan and am old enough to know of him from the beginning. But years ago my father, in his 80's, was given a CD of him signing the American Songbook, the old classics. He loved it, played it constantly, and I loved it also. He has a voice for those wonderful old songs.

I am a fan of EARLY Rod Stewart, especially when he sang blues style with Long John Baldry, Jeff Beck and lastly the Faces. There was one paragraph in a Faces biography I read - "Faces: Had me a Real Good Time" that caught my attention. It states that when Rod was first turning professional around age 19, he did not sing with his later trademark voice. It says that while still living home, he continued perfecting his gravel voice tones. Quote from Rod -"I wish I had been born a negro. I used to spend hours trying to imitate their sound. It drove my Mum nuts and it hurt like hell at first." Is it possible that he could have developed the nodules by doing this? Also ,since you are show casing Rod, would you please listen to the man Rod replaced when he joined Faces - Steve Marriott? While he was the lead vocalist in SMALL FACES, Steve was greatly regarded by his peers as being the greatest white soul singer in Britain, among his admirers - Roger Daltry, David Bowie, and Robert Plant who idolized Steve. When asked if Steve influenced his singing, Robert replied "I wanted to f**king BE Steve Marriott!" Here are two great examples: "You Need Lovin" SMALL FACES /1966 Plant borrowed from Steve for "Whole Lotta Love" "Black Coffee" HUMBLE PIE 1972 live on Old Grey Whistle Test, Wonderful example of his range. Thank you very much

@@Mr.E5150 Steve is my rock hero. Unlike Rod, Steve cared nothing for money or fame, he just wanted to make the music he loved. His last biography (of 3) opens with several pages of accolades from his peers such as Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Mick Jagger, Paul Rogers, Steve Perry and Ozzy Osborne. I wasn't aware of Dio, but am not surprised - many of the artists who followed in his wake admired and were influenced by him.

This song is anthemic....its beauty and simplicity are its power...embellishment only detracts from the wave-like emotional momentum that continues to build throughout the song. Scottish Gaelic Psalms have a similar quality. It would be the perfect song for Celtic fans at Hampden Park. There's a better version on KZbin which is the official video featuring Stewart on a sailboat.
