Coastlines are not permanent, barrier islands are above ground sandbars moving slowly back and forth. As a Floridian I don’t want to live on the beach, I want to live close enough to have access to the beach. Plus window cleaning alone is a full time job if you live directly on the beach.

This is what happened in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Cali and a whole neighborhood has been shut down because the land is moving in falling into the ocean. These rich people built their homes in an area where the land was unstable and didn’t care. So now they’re paying the price and never going to get to live there anymore.

Outer banks of North Carolina. That house has been barely hanging on for the last decade. I grew up there, and my parents were successful realtors. I remember how often they'd discuss the beachfront houses when they were considering locations for the houses they built. They were careful not to build too close to the "danger zone".

Tho there was a lot of land footage and dunes in front of these homes once upon a time, it angers me that the homes are simply allowed to stay there until they fall into the ocean scattered debris for miles up and down the coastline. Can't walk on the beach due to boards, nails not to mention contamination from ruptured septic tanks. The homes should be dismantled and hauled away before littering the water and beach strand.

It’s laughable that people are able to rebuild after such catastrophic disasters such as this, but you know, that’s the American way. If there’s a buck to be made, from the general contractor ,to the local county providing building permits, to the insurance companies that keep jacking up policy premiums.
