The Procaster has a much richer sound and on top of that better background noise suppression? I admit, i was somewhat shocked about that much of a difference!

I'm a very happy owner of a Rode Procaster. I've used the mic for many years for radio preproduction work in my studio and I've received many favourable comments about the quality from numerous operators and technicians at the radio station I work for. It's got a very warm, full sound. I've tried using other microphones but have always come back to this one for my radio work. Highly recommended and well done Rode!

OMG... It was so much fun finding this video! I only first found your channel maybe 6-10 months ago and have loved your mic review videos. The fact that your overall style and attitude has not changed over the last 6 years, while your actual skill and production value has gone through the roof, just makes me smile. Keep it up Bandrew!

Great Review, as usual. I used the Podcaster for a couple of years and still find my old recordings very decent. The best thing: I don't remember any EQ difficulties, unlike, for example, with my RE20. I can not recommend the Podcaster, however. First, it is so sensitive to handling noise that an expensive shock mount is needed (I don't know if a boom arm is sufficient), and that makes the whole package too expensive for what you get, in my opinion. Second, the Podcaster turned out to be really sensitive to backgound noise. Often, birds from outside could be heard on my recordings. I always felt the Podcaster gave me the slightly lower quality of a dynamic mic with the sensitivity of a condenser mic, which is the the opposite of what we want: The audio quality of a condenser and the sensitivity of a dynamic. BTW although Rode recommends the traditional bungee/spiderweb PSM1 shock mount for the Podcaster and the Procaster, the new "lyre-style" Rode/Rycote SMR shock mount is much better. Because the PSM1 is intended for vertical mics and loses its tension when the mic is positioned non-vertically, as it is necessary with these mics. The SMR is rock solid and can handle the mic in a horizontal position. BTW I broke my Podcaster when I unscrewed the top grille to check the capsule. I don't know what I did, but since then it is mute.

I also agree that the video does not deserve a thumbs down. However, beginning a mic review for over one minute with audio from the camera mic could easily trigger a thumb down early on, because it could be perceived as non-professional. Why not put one of your other mis on the boom arm for the intro? (Will look even more professional with your RE20 or SM7B visible.)

Wish I could tell what makes you think the Procaster is better... I found the Podcaster vastly superior in this vid whilst the Procaster seemed too muffled...when he moved his head around the mic the Podcaster was way better....what am I interpreting wrong to come to this very different conclusion or what made you guys pick the PROcaster over the PODcaster

Having mostly watched your new videos, it's fun to see what the "studio" looked like 5 years ago. We can actually see the walls, the sound proofing. No special sound effects. No throwing boxes. You're not controlling the lighting the way you do now. Quite a journey you've been on.

I used to have a Podcaster and I will be buying a Procaster very soon. Never realised there was such a huge difference in sound quality between them! The Procaster makes the Podcaster sound very hollow and tinny. Glad I made the right choice this time around. The Procaster has such a deep and rich sound.

Nice review. I got the white Podcaster. To all who has this, never use an antibacterial wipes to sanitise/clean the body. The markings in mine got smudged, I’m so disappointed how cheap Rode made those markings. Not even a top coating.. it’s like those letter transfer that you scratch back in the day. I have other mic like Senheisser, etc that can clean with antibac wipes without any issues. That’s my only complaint about this Rode. Thanks!

Thank you. 🧡 I am looking for a dynamic mic for online teaching. Now I am using Trust GXT 252+. Procaster with an interface and maybe a cloudlifter is not a pure comparison with Podcaster. So I am choosing between Podcaster and Presonus PD-70 or PodMic (both with an interface). I have a pretty calm manner of speaking. How do you think what is a preferred of these variants?

It sounds like the podcaster has some kind of compression either in the signal chain or DSP, reducing axis rejection and might go some way into explaining why the procaster had a more natural sound.

The Podcaster will cut through a bit better, if doing vocals for music. But for VO work and such, I'd prefer the Procaster. The Podcaster has a fairly flat frequency response but raised highs above 8K or so, which can lead to sibilance. I've owned the Podcaster since it was launched. It has a nice low noise-floor for a USB mic, is great build-quality, and has zero-latency monitoring.
