I bought this mic in December of 2014 and I can confirm it records sound extremely well. I am happy to own one now, I am impressed. I use it in combo with my Canon HF G30 and also with an Olympus Sound Recorder. When you first try using it, it takes a bit of time to adjust the camera's internal settings in order to make the combo work together for the best quality sound results. After several tests, I dialed it down from being too loud and distorted, to > perfect!

Does it have a warning light when the battery is low and does it have auto off when the camera is turned off?

Well I guess just to record yourself giving the lecture, I would go with a shotgun mic, they are meant for a single direction, such as "Rode VideoMic" , its half the price of this one in the video. Or if you want all the sound from your surroundings then this "Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro" is good. There's just so many, I'd look at BHphoto's website, they have the best prices.

I have issue with this mic it gives me only to one side sound, when I pull the 3.5 jack a bit back it gives stereo, what can this be?

hi, what is you setting in the camera when you put the mic on 0, -10, +20 ..... ist your setting in the camera on AUTO? the lowest? regards

I GOL (groaned out loud) when you said it uses a 9V battery. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm trying to decide whether or not I even need an external mic for my Sony FDR AX33 camcorder. It's new to me and I need some more listening time with the built-in mic.

I could hear lot of hissing... hiss sound in the background... I had this issue with stereo videmic from Rode but appears that even this pro version has same issue.

oh, well in that case, I would just get a regular compact digital audio recorder. Like Philips or Sony

you would probably have some better results if you turned on the high pass filter.
