The entire reason for a shotgun mic is to be able to capture sound from a distance. Your review setup was great but I was so dissapointed you didn't do any distance testing. A mic sounding great with your face right next to the mic isn't a real world test.

You do realize that the Rode VideoMic Go has three positions for the mic. Just unscrew the hot shoe mount and reposition further forward or back.

+DSLR Video Shooter P.S- Caleb.. Really random, but I really loved your camera movements @0:22 . I know, these are really plain movements, but were they handheld? Or was the camera attached to a certain rig as you moved? I like those little shakes, and I got a feeling that its handheld, and just feels different since its not a DSLR. It's a mirrorless, which is lighter..and that's why the movements feel different. :]

You can actually make the videomic go sit further forward on top of the camera by undoing the little screw inside the shoe mount which lets you pop the whole mount off and reposition the pins to one of 3 positions (further forward, standard position or further back). Just a little tip if you need to use the EVF on the camera :)

Videomic GO- sounds clearer and more "open" and its trebles are great! Videomic Pro- sounds more base-y and more "mono" compared to the Go. Combining the two together: the highs from the Go + the Base from the Pro- would be amazing.

I'm new to video but I've dabbled with audio recordings of voice and acoustic guitar. Still a learning process for me, but your video totally helps!
@janeeightfive73317 жыл бұрын
the +20 db option in the video mic pro should give you the ability to increase the signal-to-noice-ratio (SNR). almost every mic input in the cameras are noisy as hell and have very low audio. that means if you have to make the sound louder in post, you would also make the noise louder if your snr is too bad. so, this is where the +20 db comes in: you can set the input mic level that low that it won't come to an increasement of the noise when you possibly have to make the audio louder in postproduction.

I have an issue with picking up a little rhythmic ticking sound from the camera with the Go. It doesn't seem to be as apparent when I've tried it with the Pro. Not sure if it's coming internally from the mic or from the camera, but it really ruins the audio - seems like it might be a sensor on a zoom lens issue. Regardless, the Go isn't directional enough and is picking up any noise coming from the camera.

Thank you very much for this very informative review. I lean towards the PRO, but I have a few questions, hopefully you can shed some light on them: 1) Would the PRO be compatible with an external PC sound card? Or does it need to be powered by a camera? How about the GO? 2) I would use it for Vlogs, so do I have to stand right in front of the mic, or being sometimes on the left and right sides of the mic, and/or further back from it (1m) would decrease the recording quality? Thank you.
