📜 This is the Rode Wireless GO II brandstore.rode.com/products/...
In this video we're talking about the most important setting and that sets apart all one transmitter microphone sets and dual transmitter sets.
On Merged you get all the audio in one pot, that you can't really control later, but with some added safety features. On Split you have a bit more work to treat it in post, but you get the advantage of having separate audios to work with.

@@FlyEnri So I'm using an iPad Pro to film an interview I am conducting with my guest. Starting with the iPad, the connections go like this: iPad > Rode AI Micro > WirelessGo2. The center of the AI accepts a 3.5mm headphone cable but I don't want to be seen on camera with a wire running from my ear all the way back to the iPad. So I went for a device called AirFly where a dongle goes in that center hole & airpods go into my ear. It works. But if the guest, for example, is saying "jack went up the hill..." by the time he says "hill" my ear is hearing "went". The delay is distracting, especially when I speak too. Is there any device that can connect to my setup that gives me the guest's voice in real time without delay ?

Would you recommend merged for live-streaming? We 4 people sitting around a table & have 4 mics panned left/right from the 2 receivers & set to mono in OBS and we get a lot of echo which I think is the mics picking up everyone speaking. Haven’t tried merges but thinking that could help
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri Жыл бұрын
Hi dear ! Yeah, i think probably it's best to use merged. But definitely you'd be better off with microphones that aren't omnidirectional, meaning those that pick up only what's in front, and not from the sides. I've tested one in the channel that was incredibly cheap and efficient on this, maybe it would be a better option for a podcast like setup than the Rodes !

Is there any possibility to change it after the content was recorded? From now on I will just record in merged mode if I use one transmitter but I did a lot of content on this specific recording day so it would be amazing if you could tell me if there is any possibility to change the mode after it was already recorded. Thank you!
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 6 ай бұрын
Hi ! Yeah, it's perfectly possible ! Depends on which editing software you're using but all of them have some sort of audio effect which copies the left channel onto the right channel. Or you can change the sound track to Mono and it will also be heard on both sides. Try to google these ideas according to which editing software you're using and let me know if it works !

@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 10 ай бұрын
Hi Sylvia ! What exactly do you need ? To hear the audio from both sides ? If you are using Merged, it should already be like that, if it's Merged but you only hear it on one side, you might have the Safety Channel On. All these are on the Rode Central. Deactivate it and it will be ok! Or, if you already have things recorded like that, you need an effect called Copy Left to Right or Copy Right to Left, depending on each side you're hearing. It will make the same sound go over to the other channel.

Hello. Thanks so much for this video. Sometimes I conduct interviews in noisy environments and I’ve either experienced one speakers audio was too low but the audio was merged or I had frequency squeaky issues occur. So I’m guessing I may have needed to have the receivers in split mode and turn up the gain. What do you think? I need to know the best setting I should have in this scenarios. Many thanks
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 5 ай бұрын
Hi !! Yeah, for the volume difference recording in Split will save you, so you can control the volumes separately ! The frequency issues if it happens with only one TX and it's not the one you need at that moment, the split will solve. Otherwise the best solution is to get the recording from the internal memory on the TX. The gain I always leave in low or medium, turning up too much generates too much noise.

great video - where can I find the sefety track when I recording internal on the device? - is it a different file?
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 8 ай бұрын
Hi ! It's always just one file, video and audio together, but the audio has two channels. In your editing software you should be able to see Right and Left channels, so when using the safety track, one channel (i believe left) will have the normal level audio and the right channel will have a lowered audio track. While editing you can split them in two, and then make them work for both right and left channels, depending on which you need to use.

Maybe you covered this, but I'm relatively new to working with interview audio instead of VO/music. I recorded interviews with the 2 mics in split mode, but I can't get rid of the echo happening from each voice in the opposite mic. Is there a way to "combine" the split audio (which I've converted to stereo) so there's no more echo? I'm lost!
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri Жыл бұрын
Hi Ren! Yeah, it's a big issue this ! So ideally you have to try to eliminate it as much as possible when recording. Having mics that don't pick up audio from too far away, having them well positioned close to each person's mouth, etc. This way the echo will be almost unnoticeable. If still you got it, you can use a function called Noise Gate, present in many video editors or audio editors. It will eliminate any noise below a certain level. So it will understand when it's your speaker talking, and leave it, and when it's the other person far away, and eliminate that. It's not perfect, as you can't put it too high and risk having something the current person said a bit lower, but it's what's possible. Hope that helps !

@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 4 ай бұрын
Hi ! The audio is always recorded in the camera together with the video, so no worries there. If you're recording with only one mic you can choose Merge or Split. Merged is a simple way of having the audio ready to use. Split will record on two channels, left and right, different volumes of the audio. It will record a normal on the left and a -20dB on the right. This way if at some point you have a very loud noise you can save it. But you'll need to edit this audio quickly on any video editing software to have it sound on both left and right channels. It's easy, but one more step.

When using two lav mics (Rode Wireless pro) for a vlog (two people) I record in split mode. However, when I listen to the audio later, I hear (like you showed in your video) an echo from the voice in the opposite mic. You showed that in Davinci you can mute the person that is not speaking to get rid of the echo. However, in my case both people often speak at the same time and interrupt each other so muting one is not an option. Can I record the two mics in merge mode instead of split? What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 2 ай бұрын
Hi ! Yeah, it's difficult when it's like this, you can record in merge, the issue is that if one persone talks way louder than the other you can't fix it anymore. Also if you're using different lav mics and they have different volumes it's also impossible to fix. Is the echo really bad ?

Hi Juan! No, it's in the same file, but the normal recording stays on the left channel, and the safety on the right channel. On any editing software you can duplicate the audio, then copy left to right and right to left. Like this you'll be left with two tracks, one complete with the original and one complete at -20dB !

@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 8 ай бұрын
Hi ! Fitness coaches ? I'd use split if i were you, otherwise their breathing and talking will interfere with each other. It's always only 1 video file with the audio inside. The trick is that it splits Right and Left channel. Usually on the editing you don't see it exists, but you can configure the editing software to show you.

Hey man, awesome video. Nice that you're responding to comments too! I've recorded clips in split mode onto a Canon M50. I can see the different levels of waveforms in the L/R channel so I think it's correctly recorded them split, but when I separate out and mute one channel, I still get audio (although at a lower volume) from the muted receiver? I know that it's not just echo because it's distortion and wind noise which is coming through. Really weird, have you ever seen this issue?
@JBNat
@JBNat 3 ай бұрын
Okay on the off chance someone finds this and has the same issue.. This is caused by my camera not having a true stereo input. The canon m50 which I'm using down mixes the L/R channels so you're effectively forced into merged mode.

Hi, great tutorial! Thank You! I need Your help with rode configuration split/mere or other solution. I am recording workshops. I have 3 presenters and audience. Using two sets of rode go ii. first receiver connected to yolobox pro directly (to line or mic input-i can not find the difference between those inputs). Second receiver connected to Yolobox with HDMI via Canon M50 mark II (mic input of Canon). Than I have 3 transmitters - each for 1 presenter (clipped) and one transmitter mounted to rode interview - to record questions asked from audience. When I am recording tests, I experience echoes and voice from this rode mounted as reporter is much more lower....My question is which setup should I use to have the best possible voice recording effect (with no echo and similar voice levels from those four transmitters)-thank You in advance for Your assistance!
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 10 ай бұрын
Hi !! Hmmm so I'm imagining the second set of Rodes got one tx with one of the presenters and 1 on the reporter right ? So if the tx with the presenter is ok, it means the issue is on the levels on the reporter app, or the microphone you're using there is lowering the audio way more than the other lav mics or whatever you're using. I'd say to make a simpler test with the only tx that is different. Connect it directly to camera, without the yolobox and the reporter app. Check both tx's are good. Then put the yolo. Check. Then connect it with the reporter app, and check. One step at a time you'll manage to isolate the issue! Let me know if i can help any further!!

Hi ! It's in the same video clip, all you need is to show both channels of the audio, because the normal loudness will be on the left and the safety on the right channel. Which software are you using to edit ?

@@FlyEnri Hi! Thanks for replying. I'm using DaVinci Resolve. I think I know what the issue is. I was recording 3 mic'd people, so I used two Wireless Go II sets of mics. In other words I used a TRS splitter to connect the two receivers to my camera. I don't think I can access the safety channel because the only two channels of audio that are available are the two people on the first channel and the third person on the other. Thank you for your video. It was really helpful.

Excellent video! Unfortunately, my Insta360 One X2 camera only records in merged mode with the Rode GO II. However, a SINGLE track is generated, with the two audios mixed. In other words, when there is a voice that I don't want, that I would like to eliminate, I am forced to retrieve the recording on the transmitter where the speech I want is and make the replacement in that part (with the extra work of synchronization). Would there be another better way? Congratulations on the channel.
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri 5 ай бұрын
I just checked and Insta360 says that it's really only mono recording, meaning you're right, only Merged will work unfortunately... In your case I'd suggest you to always import the files from the TX, synch and create a compound clip. Whenever you want to eliminate one audio, you go inside and cut. Just to keep things clean in your timeline, and maybe this will be faster than chopping up the whole audio, and then suddenly needing to get a piece from the tx here and there.... But yeah, not a greaaaat solution. Or use an external recorder, like a Zoom H1N, small and easy.

Yes ! But on one channel you'll have both microphones merged together, and on the other channel both also but on -20dB. So you won't be able to edit them separately, unless you recover the recording from the internal memory on each microphone. This is a very good way of using it. You got the ready audio, the safety channel, and also the independent recordings. But you'll always need to edit the audio in post, to be able to use it. It's not much work at all, but just be aware :D

Hi Roee! Yeah, it records on both channels the same audio. But in this case you have to retrieve the audio from the TX later on. The difference comes when connected to the RX, then it will depend if you set Split or Merged.

Ahhh that is a very extreme situation... Hmmmm maybe if you try merged then, put it on the lowest dB setting and activate the Safety channel. I have an issue I'm not able to solve... When recording in split mode, if I attach the receiver into a camera or to the Zoom h5, with a split cable and two VXLR+ adapters, all is fine. However, if I attach the receiver into a camera or to the Zoom h5 with a miniplug cable (the red one that comes with Wireless GO ii) and an adapter, only the transmitter nro 1 will work. No audio whatsoever will come out from transmitter nro 2 (although I see it working and recording on the transmitter). They both work and record internally, but for some reason I can't connect only transmitter nro 2 to any device. Any idea why?
@FlyEnri
@FlyEnri Жыл бұрын
Hi ! The miniplug red cable that comes with it should be enough to pass on both channels, or both transmitters audio in this case. If you see the receiver is picking up audio from TX01 and 02, and that they are two different lines, it indicates Split mode is really activated. I'd check the editing software to be sure it's not for some reason playing only the left or right channels. Which are you using, Premiere ?
@strangerless

@@FlyEnri Hey, thanks for your reply. I'm sorry I explained my case a bit unclearly. The thing is, when I attach the receiver to an external recorder (Zoom H5) with a single cable in split mode, I can see on the screen of the RX that both TX01 and TX02 are working. However, I can only hear and monitor the audio from TX01 on my Zoom H5. If I turn TX01 off, I hear nothing. So, my TX02 records internally, but for some reason I cannot hear or monitor it on an external recorder. I can do so with the TX01. I would assume there's something wrong with the TX02, but internally it records just fine, so I guess that's not the case... Any idea? So, this happens before taking it into any editing software.

Hi! No, you can't add a third mic here, the only solution would be to add a second set of Rode wireless, and use a special device that allows for dual input before the input on the camera. So it would be like, two receivers, connecting to this device, and this device to the camera.

Hi!! I'll be super happy trying to help: so in theory there should be no interference in the signal. And as long as whatever you want to connect it to has a 3.5 mm jack you'll be fine! Or you'll need one of the other cables Rode provides, to connect to phones for example through USB c or lightning.

Hi dear ! Let me try to help, so it's configured as Merged, you have both transmitters active, and still you hear one much louder than the other ? They are the same distance from the person speaking, all conditions the same ? Check if the Safety Channel is active, because it records a lower volume version of the merged audio on one side, and the original on the other, might be that. But both audios from both transmitters should still sound equally high given the same conditions of recording.

Exactly that! Thanks KJ! For the videos you already recorded, you can simply copy the left channel onto the right, and replace it. For the next ones, you can choose to have it lower, as it is, and have the safety in case some loud noise comes up (in these cases you use the lower volume side), or do like KJ said, and just deactivate the Safety Channel and you'll have always both sounding the same.

@FlyEnri

Hi dear! Exactly! What you gotta do is duplicate the audio. At first you got 1 audio, with left and right channels, each of you is on one channel, in this case she's on the left and you're on the right. When you duplicate the audio on the timeline you'll have 2 audio tracks, each one with left and right, just the same. Now on the first you gotta copy Left to Right. This way, her voice will overwrite yours on the right channel, but only in that first track right. So now on audio 1 you can hear her voice coming from both sides. Ok, now you do the opposite on track 02. Copy right to left. So now audio 02 is only your voice, on both sides. Whenever you want to mute one of you, you mute the whole track and bingo! Not sure was clear, let me know!
