What was stopping you from doing that before? I'm not crapping on this console (primarily because I have yet to operate one) but the ergonomics are just wrong for DJing, I'd wager that at least 90% of the functionality you could cover with something like an X-one:96 only in a much more compact and ergonomic package and if you need more inputs, just put a second one beside it and you'll still be using less space, you'd have more in the way of aux sends at that point and, at the risk of repeating myself, the ergonomics are just so much better for that sort of environment. I don't know how comfortable I'd feel about hauling one of these around with me on tour as the price ranges from 6000€ for an empty chassis to 10,000€ for a fully kitted out DJ oriented version to 15,000€ for the tracking version. For the price of the DJ MX Modular I can get four X-one:96 mixers (two for the stage and two in reserve) and still have money left over for weekend of hookers and blow. I'm not convinced but, I'm willing to hear the arguments that will be made for its utility in situations and configurations that, I guess, I just haven't yet contemplated.
@rodec_audio26 күн бұрын
@@diemturner5755 There was no point for us to simply copy already existing concepts. The MX Modular is hybrid by design. It should give you the utmost freedom. We wanted to create an instrument, rather another DJ mixer. We hear you and we listen to you. This is just the beginning.
@gramophonedzie22 күн бұрын
@@diemturner5755 Well you are missing the point as I don't need it for djing, I need it for my hybrid setup with band and my live performance that includes djing if needed. Xone96 has maybe two mic inputs and I don't need mic inputs I need proper line inputs and also Rodec put D-subs which is best for what my system needs. You can't put 500series master eq or compressor or whatever I wish for and use it in dj setup. For me biggest problem was to get level of my band and my output levelled. Now I can mix my band live and have that BUMPY sound that I always wanted. Also, it seems you never used Rodec dj mixers as it can't be compared to A&H, Rodec old mixers have that special sound. I think A&H always wanted to sound like old Rodec mixers :D

I'm well familiar with Rodec DJ mixers and their reputation for making extremely rugged gear is not not unwarranted. Anything Rodec I've ever had my hands on was built like a tank. Never a pot that went bad, no crackling, not even a hex nut that affixes the pots to the face plate went loose. That being said, while this gives you that analog vibe while being fully hybrid, what I'm not hearing is, how does this console address the issue of latency, being fully integrated into the DAW world? You said there are eight inputs in the master section that I can use to pipe anything I like into the console, outboard gear, FX, drum machines, etc. You also mentioned that the master output can get passed through the master buss of the DAW for processing and the signal then gets routed back into the consoles master section. How does the console compensate for latency deltas between say, a DSI Tempest that I'm running straight into two or four of the inputs in the master section and the master buss that's being additionally processed in the DAW which, 99.97% of the time will include processing that will definitely incur latency during the round trip through the DAW (possibly quite a lot of latency, depending on which plugins are being used and how many are in the master chain? And I don't understand the inclusion of a cross-fader on a console such as this. I can't help but feel like it's trying to wear a hat or two too many but I'm willing to see what the thought process was behind the inclusion of a DJ control element that is primarily used for rapid fire movements while scratching. Or what other use cases are you seeing in studios for a cross fader? Or am I just really underestimating the number of clubs and festivals that plan on using this rather chunky 8-channel 500 series console on stage for DJ sets? I don't have any data that says otherwise but, if I was a betting man, I'm pressing X to doubt. What am I missing? Thanks Rodec and Godspeed, -Diem
@rodec_audio26 күн бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comment. Here are a few answers: On Latency Case 1) Hybrid playing setup: combo of analog inputs and daw inputs, summed in MX Modular: Your DAW will handle midi and sync with outboard gear and audio with plugins in your computer perfectly. all tracks will be in sync. Case 2) Summing in DAW and processing some tracks through the MX modular: The use of I/O plugins (logic and ableton allow this) will automatically add delay compensation for something that goes out and back into your computer Case 3) Inserting DAW plugins on analog Master: This will only add latency over the total mix, like it does in your daw. Use an I/O plugin on Interface channels STEREO L + R. All tracks will stay in sync, even if it's a combo of analog and daw tracks. This feature is intended to do analog processing and summing on the console and then hear the mix directly through a software mastering chain. Because of latency, actually playing along with a guitar through the console is not something you would do in this case. Cross fader: The cross-fader is something that Rodec came up with in the late 50s and 60s, when installing audio systems in bars. It allows for smooth transition between sources, with one finger. Putting a crossfader on a studio mixer may seem odd, but we want you to perform in your studio and play with the individual stems. Setting a few stems (say 6 outputs from a drum machine) to go to X, a few to Y and a few on "through" allows you to transition between scenes smoothly and quickly feel and balance what works and not in a mix and set. An upcoming video by the end of this week has a demo of that.

can we get a version without the built in interface and efx? i think tracking and mixing engineers would be all over this. maybe also have an add on 500 series chassis so people can have one with 8 preamps going into one with 8 eq's into the faders. there's literally no one in the recording world making this, except for SPECK, and there's is really just a fader module with a master with no extra features. adding pre/post fader direct outs and a more comprehensive master section like what you have would dominate the recording world. 500 series modular desks are the future. someone just needs to make one without overthinking the feature set for recording engineers. we dont need the built-in interface or any of the scene changing features either. just a modular all-analog fader set + 500 series chassis so faders can be inline and a comprehensive master section and my money is yours!
