Hi Hi! Thanks SO MUCH for watching this video I made discussing 1997’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella! AND, the video is already Closed Captioned for you as well!! Also, I wanted to place this piece of information in a pinned comment and mention that I do talk about the film’s use of ‘color-blind casting’, which is referred to in a ‘Making Of’ featurette I credited in the video description as ‘rainbow casting’. In this case, I really enjoyed seeing that casting approach here and felt it was really well-executed AND I also totally understand there being mixed reception as well. As we see more discussions and examples of representation and inclusion in media, I did want to do some further reading for myself because of the conversation surrounding this being so complex and I wanted to share a few informative pieces of media I found recently regarding the topic to check out below (and, if I find more over time that I think you’ll like, I’ll be sure to link them here as well): “‘It’s dangerous not to see race’: is colour-blind casting all it’s cracked up to be?” by Micha Frazer-Carroll, The Guardian: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/aug/11/its-dangerous-not-to-see-race-is-colour-blind-casting-all-its-cracked-up-to-be “‘Hamilton’, ‘The Simpson’ and the Problem With Colorblind Casting” by Maya Phillips, The New York Times: www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/arts/television/hamilton-colorblind-casting.html “‘Hamilton’ producers defend diverse casting” by Jayme Deerwester, USA Today: www.usatoday.com/story/life/theater/2016/03/31/producer-diverse-casting-key-hamilton/82461036/ Authenticity in casting: From ‘colorblind’ to ‘color conscious’, new rules are anything nut black and white by Jessica Gelt, The Los Angeles Times: www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/la-ca-cm-authenticity-in-casting-20170713-htmlstory.html Also, I wanted to recognize Khadija Mbowe and their content! I actually discovered their channel over the past couple of months and they post incredibly informative and introspective analyses into a variety of topics, including ‘color-blind casting’! The two videos linked below are ones I highly recommend! Color-blind vs. Identity-conscious casting and examining Hamilton and Malcolm & Marie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joq3f2l4o7CSgauh Race-baiting, queer-baiting, colorism, featurism, and performative diversity [About Netflix’s Bridgerton]: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIqzc2ikf7tmnpo Lastly, I wanted to recognize that a lot more progress needs to be made for all individuals, no matter who they are or what they look like, etc. to be and feel included and accepted in everyday life. Now more than ever, it’s important to ensure that we do what we can to be there for each other and, as [I initially recognized BLM a year ago now on my review of Dolittle (2020) and have updated that to recognizing the “Black Emotional & Mental Health Collective” or BEAM], I decided to recognize “Stop APPI Hate” and the “American Civil Liberties Union or the ACLU” via links you could check out below and I hope to continue recognizing organizations like this in the future: stopaapihate.org/ & www.aclu.org/ Have a delightful Saturday and thanks again for checking out this video!!

That dress transformation was so cool looking. I feel like I maybe saw this when it originally aired on ABC, but it has been wayyyyy too long. I love that you took the time to dive into this, it looks like it deserves more attention, even if the fanbase has been praising it more in recent years. Also, the editing on this was so tight. That was a lot of footage to dig through!

Brandy is a legend!!! I remember her TV show moesha. But wow I had no idea about this adaptation of Cinderella. The set design looks incredible. You made a fantastic retrospective of this movie well done.

Great review : ) And its nice to see you back. A good follow up movie would be Jerry Lewis's Cinderfella , another different take on the classic fairytale.

So well spoken and annotated! Specially the cabbages part 😂 I only ever saw the 50s Disney cartoon, they don't make music like that any more! This version does seem a bit showey, like over the top unnecessarily, the scenes look all to be in focus, no depth of field, I guess I'd have to see it more!

Thank You! It is a TV movie with a heavily used storybook-esk aesthetic, which I know isn't everyone's kind of preference, but I personally enjoyed it quite a lot. Also, thanks for recognizing my cabbages annotation haha!

I used to be a substitute teacher and the kids would ask me if we could watch “The Brandy Cinderella” if they behaved. I’m not gonna lie - I kind of got into it. (Shhh! Don’t tell my Horror friends😉)
