I heard fruit tree from five leaves left early in the 70’s when I was a DJ in college I was stunned at the beauty and sheer inventiveness of the guitar playing

Nick’s musical style seems very much like his mum’s from the little bit that I have seen of them both. There’s something very fragile and vulnerable about them both; their music is beautiful, but sad. 😮 As another famous songwriter once said; “Behind every beautiful thing there has been some kind of pain” ... I think that I would have to agree.

That was Bob Dylan you were referring to I think it went behind every beautiful face there has been some kind of pain.

I've just finished the new biography on Nick Drake which is excellent. His parents were fantastically supportive of him throughout his brief life. His talent was extraordinary but he lacked the ability to promote himself. Sadly, these days there are so many artists out there that that have very little talent but extraordinary confidence. Thank God he managed to create 3 albums and has now taken on mythical status and recognition of his undoubted genius.

Sweet Nick.I suppose his soul was just too gentle for this world. I can't imagine feeling like a complete failure at everything. That had to be a sad and lonely place to be. If he only knew that he was just the opposite! I pray that he's at perfect peace with our Savior.❤🙏

As a depression sufferer and a musician myself, I feel a lot like Nick in the "I have failed at everything I have attempted to succeed at." Show business really is a cut-down industry and the perfect conditions and connections are the only thing that leads to major success. Nick made very good ones, but ones that in the end were not nearly good enough.

The critics were accurate in this artist. His work is poetic but boring. I grew up on lps and can't imagine seating through an entire album of his music. One song maybe. But he is OK material for a doc 25 years later. The caveat for people with this personality is -stay away from dope. It worsens your sense of alienation. It does.

Respectfully, I think you’re missing the point. It’s poetic, beautiful and requires an attention span to appreciate it and fully absorb what he’s created. The critics also missed the point in my opinion. The reason millions of people love his music and still talk about out it now is because it is beautifully written with a unique sensitivity. Furthermore, it is rendered with a deftness on the guitar and singular sound that makes one feel the mood and intention of what he was feeling.
