Stephen Roby Gleason was a great dramatic actor and a decent composer, too. He broadcast the show live from Miami when all live prime time shows came out of LA or NY because he was The Great One so the network set it up - a big deal when live television was transmitted over many parallel and expensive AT&T lines. His ratings were great so the network made plenty of money.

I was born at the end of the 60's so too young to really know, but I can remember a few actors who I would see that I would stop and take the time to watch. Gleason, Stewart, McQueen to name a few. It was like they had this power to pull you into their story wanting more. Then seeing Rodney when he showcased new comic's was mind opening giving me a new love of Comedy.

Last year I went to the thrift store and found a bunch of Jackie Gleason albums for like $2 each. Fantastic music, so lush and beautiful. My lovely wife was astonished to learn it was arranged and conducted by Ralph Kramden.

Who Dangerfield or Gleeson? Hey, whomever it is, we all have our time and let the next crop of people take over. The next Gleeson or Dangerfield is Here. But those guys did have there issues, and mostly it wasn't all fun and games.

The Ol' Redhead was truly one of the Greats & My Father's all-time favorite funnyman/entertainer. My favorite American was & still is John Wayne, but Red did a wonderful skit about the Pledge of Allegiance that's as good/great as any American themed piece Big John ever did. If you've never seen it give it a quick Google, I highly recommend it 🙏 💪🇺🇲👍

In the summer of 1985, I was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. One weekend I went home to Montgomery, Alabama for a three-day pass, and it was at a local theater there where I saw “Back To School”. The place was packed, and that movie was hilarious; Rodney Dangerfield had the entire audience roaring with laughter (especially how he was humiliating his ungrateful wife, Adrienne Barbeau). I mean Rodney had the whole cinema audience in tears. I reported back to Fort Stewart as required, and just a few days later, I chose to go see “Back To School” again. This time, I went to a theater in Savannah, Georgia. The exact thing happened there just like the Montgomery theater: packed out, and Rodney had that Georgia audience constantly laughing. Thank you, Mr. Dangerfield.

Great! One of his best stand up routines. And Jackie Gleason a great comic and actor in his own right. One thing missing, Rodney's red tie. Was in my late teens when this was made, and when these two men were made the molds were broken.
