I have taken my desktop PC over to a mates, too often. I would have already gotten a steam deck but couldn't be arsed when it wasn't directly available in Aus. I know there's other similar devices to the Ally, but I was pretty sure I would get one and each of these uploads shows a level of assurance about them that makes the decision to afford one easier to justify.

I think the inbuilt mics might work better while your holding the Ally itself and using it. Rather than it just being on the desk in front of you. Sounded really muddy like the ai filter was having a hard time deciding if it should… mute you. But as a portable streaming setup, it overall passes I think. Monster Hunter rise looks really good even on lower settings, because let’s face it, it’s a ported over switch game, so nothing but improvements lol.

In theory then an Ally could be used as a 2nd PC in a two PC streaming set up? How well do you think this would work? I have been considering getting a mini pc as a dedicated streaming pc. A game in particular that I want to stream (Star Citizen) runs fine 50-60% CPU and GPU use while just playing but once I have OBS running with browser source overlays the CPU is maxed 100% with GPU 90%+. This causes major intake stuttering. Great video and thanks in advance for any advice.

Spoiler alert the emulations from pretty much anything run flawlessly on the Ally. It even runs MGS4 where some pretty competent PCs struggle. This device would have been witchcraft to someone 20yrs ago. Just inconceivable

Because im planning to replace the office desktop (i5 4590) with this ROG Ally, i do ever have R7 4700U and the performance not really bad (slightly better on 4590 desktop), im curious about how the ROG Ally can handle the Adobe family

I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised given how old that i5 CPU is. The Ally is comparable to current mid range i5 CPUs so you’ll find Adobe software absolutely flies along no problem

Planning to preorder this soon, im fine with the battery life because I always carry around spare 65W powerbank for my rog phone. I was hoping they will have other color variants other than white. But it seems unlikely.

Yeah it’s typical of OBS struggles. I bet there are a few tweaks that would eliminate it. OBS is something that never seems fully finished. You get one update running nicely and the next update has you fiddling with settings again to get rid of wee problems

the headset sounded a bit scuff, I thought the earbuds sounded a bit better than the headset. I nowadays kindof aim for comfortable earbuds since I tried on a steelseries headset once couple years ago. Since I also like having options depending on my mood I used my regular headset more often then I should've. Because I didn't realize they left like little red markings behind my ears so had to get it checked out. So since then I've been on earbuds structure land ever since. Lesson learned even though the steelseries headphones were comfy. Might have to give the earbud mics a try someday.

It's literally a windows PC mate, the set up is EXACTLY like a windows PC. There's a BAJILLION guides on that already. This video was about seeing if there was enough ~grunt~ to do it.

Hi, niche request, could you test a couple games at 3440x1440p resolution on an external monitor? Really curious how well the Ally could function by its self with an Ultrawide monitor. Would be really interesting if it could work at bare minimum fps with some games!

why does the 16 fps your getting look so good?

What are you on about? Typo? you can CLEARLY see the game is at a very steady 60fps on the Afterburner overaly.. I spoke about the 30fps stream/record settings. (perhaps you mean the camera, which is outputting at 25fps coz that's what I usually use on that camera and I didn't change it for this test) NOTHING here is "16fps" though.

At 3:00 in the video the fps counter is hovering around 16 while you're talking to us. Most likely what he is referring to 😁🙏

The FPS counter says 60fps, ~VERY clearly~ at that point, as it does for ALL of the gameplay. The "16" number you're seeing is NOT THE FRAMERATE. That's the frame TIME. it's measured in milliseconds, which is my it says MS next to it! Frame time is the time that passes ~between~ each frame being presented, it's useful in game benchmarking because it it's unsteady, or fluctuating - even if the average framerate is 60 or whatever - the game will FEEL more jarring. At 60 frames per second, that means that each frame is 1/60th of one second long so 16.67 milliseconds is the 'perfect' frame timing for that.
