I recommend not putting anything on a SD card for the ally. There have been many issues related to sd cards, so just do it in the internal storage if possible

@@sayianprincevegeta7969 yessir! Earlier I installed just retroarch along with citra core and tried loading up Pokémon ultra sun, moon and omega ruby. They launched and then crashed right away. Not sure what happened but Desmume core and Pokémon soul silver worked flawlessly. These complications are why I’m considering big box and emudeck. Hopefully those work when I follow your instructions in the video! Thanks again. Subbed!

@@sayianprincevegeta7969 that’s the thing. I tried that too. The games launch but the ally’s controller couldn’t be recognized. I couldn’t configure the controller itself either :( if you could tell me how I’d greatly appreciate it 😁

Retroarch works perfectly. My current problem is making the Ally's built-in gamepad to work in ALL these emulators.

When setting up the emulator itself, make sure the Ally is in "gamepad mode" then set your controller configuration up the way that you want it. Save the config. Then, when launchbox/bigbox opens that emulator, the controller will work. I have it working perfectly across all of my emulators, not just retroarch. Hope that helps

Same when I go to gamepass mode my retroarch doesn’t even recognise the input it’s does nothing I have to swap back to desktop mode for it to be responsive

@@darrengaynor4966 if retroarch isn't detecting the gamepad when in gamepad mode you'll likely need to update or reinstall retroarch entirely. I'd try updating via the online updater before reinstalling, personally

@Desertwolf89 yup that's the one. It's not really "needed". You could always download your own gameplay videos, edit them down, and route launchbox to reference that video for that game. Emumovies, just does it all for you

Hey brother , I know this is a dumb question, but how did you set up your controls in retroarch? I can't map the controls for some reason inside retroarch. It defaults to a xbox360 controller but the buttons don't work. So for example, in retroarch if I want to setup a new profile, the buttons don't even register unless I change the rog ally controls to desktop mode, if I leave it on auto or change it to gamepad, the keys don't register inside retroarch, so I can't map the buttons. Just curious are you just leaving retroarch as the default xbox360 input device? And are you leaving the rog ally "control mode" set to auto, desktop, or gamepad? Thanks, I know it's a dumb question. I've setup bigbox on 3 of My pcs, my arcade etc., but cant get the controls working correctly on the rog ally. Even in bigbox, I usually need to use the touch screen. Thanks bro.

I exclusively use gamepad mode. So I actually had a few others mention this, as well as experiencing once myself when I wiped my system. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling retroarch, and updating the assets, gamepad profiles, etc.. For some reason it doesn't seem to register the built in gamepad controls every time it's installed. It's strange, and I can't explain why, but reinstalling did fix the issue for me. Also, I'm not sure if you use a Bluetooth controller as well as the ally gamepad, but switching between the two seems to give juke it out on occasion. Just something to note

@sayianprincevegeta7969 yeah it doesn't register gamepad mode at all. Like none of the buttons work at all. I just reinstalled retroarch, but will try again. Haven't tried using a Bluetooth controller, but I'll give that a shot. I just thought of something but am not home, I have armory crate running at startup, could that be causing some sort of issue? When I get home I can try it,but I just thought about it.

Did you ever end up figuring this out? I’m having this issue both in Retroarch and the standalone SNES emulator (I think SNES9x). I can’t get anything to register unless I’m in desktop mode

@@bikecycleman8547 Try closing out of everything. Then check your armory crate to see if you have custom settings set for retroarch. If you do, make sure the template for retroarch in AC is set to gamepad mode. Then, before launching retroarch, go to your command center and change the mode to either gamepad mode or auto. Launch retroarch. Not a game yet though. Go to settings and find your controller settings. It may be called input or something like that. See if you can map your controls. If it doesn't work at that point, you'll likely have to re-install retroarch and update all assets. See comments above for more info

i'm having trouble with my mappings on launchbox + rog ally. Using the xbox gamepad enabled.... but when i'm in Gameboy playing games my face buttons dont register. Also my b button is mapped to quitting the game. I cleared all the manual mappings in launchbox and its still mapped to quit. Not sure how to get the rog ally controls configured.

Switch to "gamepad" mode from the Asus Command Center, then map your buttons in retroarch. You're likely in "auto" or "desktop" mode

I am also having issues too. For example, I have downloaded PSX games and set it to use RetroArch as the core. When I load a PSX game it works, however A button is acting like start and the B button is asking to quit RetroArch. I think the core that RetroArch is using is SwanStation by default

@andrewgingrich6874 it sounds like you're in auto mode (asus command center option) just press your command center button and turn it to gamepad mode instead of auto

So essentially this solution removes the need of having to go on all your different emulators to play a specific rom. Meaning like snes, ps3,ps2 etc.....but run the emulator for those rom in the folder that it was set up in. Did i understand correctly

It's just a frontend for your emulators and roms. So you can launch everything from one place once it's setup correctly

I think you have to change the controller settings in your wii emulators to pro controller. By default, they're usually set to wiimote and nunchuck

You'll need to map your controls in the emulator, itself. Also, make sure you're in gamepad mode on the Ally

You may have the wrong audio driver selected for the core you're using. Do you have fast forward active as well?

Not to my knowledge. My Rog had an update and the sound went during game play and speed up. Sound works in the options though.

@@billswarthout8679 sounds like something may have gotten corrupted with your build of retroarch. Try updating, and if that doesn't work you can always uninstall then reinstall. I had to do that once, but thankfully only once

If using a front end, why scan the game directories with Retroarch? The frontend should do that.

Yup, it does. I'm old school and set it all up beforehand. Feel free to skip ahead and do it however you prefer It also benefits me to do it this way if I ever need to make settings changes in retroarch for individual games later. I don't always use launchbox to make edits. Just comes down to personal preference 😁👍

Think of the ROG Ally as a Gaming Desktop shrunk down to handheld form. So given that anything you can do on your desktop you can do on the Ally. 👍🏼

thank you! Currently on my desktop pc, i have installed launchbox/bigbox on the C disk, and i put all the emulators and roms into the hdd D disk. When i will migrate verything in ROG ALLY, is it better to install Launchbox/Bigbox into the external microSD and put there emulators and roms too? Does it works without any slowdown? thanks

I'd recommend putting them all on the internal drive if convenient and possible. There are a lot of posts about people's card readers no longer working, so I'd recommend internal

Ah yeah, I remember this. Do this Copy the "themes" folder from: Micro SD/Launchbox/themes To Micro SD/core/ Make sure to finish all of your edits to your theme before this step. Otherwise you'll have to copy it over again. This is usually because the themes were designed to run on a C drive

And I bought launchbox when they first started and I think it was 40 for life-time at the time but things change.
