When you play game in landscape mode you need a little side bezel to not keep touching the screen by accident. Also they put front firing speaker in that tiny space, which I prefer, and is really loud with deep bass, trust me you will love it

It's a good phone with excellent specs, fantastic speakers, a lovely display, and it runs well in general. There's a lot to like. The only thing it doesn't trounce everyone else on is camera tech. It has good sensors, but you're not likely to one-up Google or Samsung with just good sensors alone, and Asus just doesn't have the deep investment into image processing that those companies do.

Honestly I love it, and I say that as someone who normally is indifferent about gaming phones. It's the fact that Asus seems committed to the mobile gaming sphere and releasing accessories to match, but it just looks amazing, even as a gaming phone. They leaned so hard into the edgy aesthetic that it loops back into looking awesome, like something out of Blade Runner. And that is a genuine achievement.

Honestly, I'm glad it's got bezels. And they don't look big (the rounded corners make then look bigger). I'm very happy that ASUS are going above and beyond in terms of inputs and ports at a time where almost everyone else is trying to remove as many as possible. And no notch or worse bullet wound! It's also a very sexy phone in that white and blue accent colour. I may just scrap my Fold for it. If only it had a Wacom EMR stylus, then I'd get it straight away! Oh, and nice Onyx Book Nova 3 Color you've go there!

If you've never experienced it before, you probably won't understand how much good stereo front-firing speakers change how you approach media consumption on your device. I've demo-ed the ones in the HTC One M7 and M8, I've owned the Axon 7, and the speakers in the ROG Phone 5 blow absolutely every other smartphone speaker implementation out of the water. It's such a stark improvement that it's actually difficult to compare them to phone speakers. They sound better than, like, 85% of laptop speakers. Truly, what an accomplishment. It also means that you can watch youtube or listen to music without missing out of the sound or feeling the need to reach for headphones, which is why it can so radically change your media consumption habits. Being able to just sit down and enjoy watching youtube videos without serious compromise to the audio quality just streamlines the experience. And, well, going back to the annoying earpiece+down-firing speaker combo from a set with front-firing stereo speakers is just thoroughly disappointing after you've had this experience. I suspect that for the people who buy this phone, that is a particular feature they're going to be loathe to abandon the next time they need an upgrade.

no news from mihoyo right now. But, if you purchase asus rog 5, u can setup buttons with rog kunai. because it's an embedded apps from rog and possibly will not be banned from mihoyo, unlike third party apps (octopus etc.)

A lot of games aren't optimized perfectly for the devices. Optimization needs time and the customers aren't interested in optimization as long the game can run. Probably, customers think that games need a lot of resources to be awesome and just their consoles or PC aren't powerful enough to handle this "Wow!" but this isn't true. TLoZ Breath of the Wild can kill PS 5 and Xbox Series X but it can run on a Nintendo Switch, just independent of the optimization of the game for the consoles. Even a Super Mario Galaxy can run on a Wii but running a physic engine which could kill every gaming console if the game's developers weren't among the geniuses of the gaming industry and had spent years trying out how to break down the elaborate physics logic in such a way that even the Wii can play the game constantly in 60 FPS, but the player hardly notices how much simplified the physics engine is. Such an immersive engine is unique and also the biggest game developers don't try to make a game like Mario Galaxy again because it's needed too much time to create so perfectly optimized physic engines.

Also, the power of a smartphone is independent of the software. A bad software optimization can overhead or underclock the chip. In both cases, the chip cannot run games with maximum performance. Samsung had to learn this the hard way. At the beginning of Xiaomi's rising, their smartphones use the same chip as Samsung in the US and China, but Xiaomi's phones run so much better than the phones of the other manufacturers, only because of the better software optimization and know, the chip manufacturers use AI to make their chips more powerful.

I don't see where the game lagged. If you're talking about the fact that it was running at 30fps, then that's because Michael didn't disable the in-game frame limiter. So mentioning that he used the display at 144hz was useless because he most likely had the fps limiters set to the lowest (30fps)

The fact that android has matured enough, and the hardware in the budget/mid-range segment have gotten powerful enough, adds to the experience of mobile emulation tremendously. PS2 emulation does work, but there's still the weirdness of PS2 emulation in general to deal with. But it's to a point where it's actually playable, which is incredibly impressive. The PS2 is notoriously tricky to emulate, so the fact that the developers behind that emulator have made it that far and the phone is powerful enough to make it a workable experience is incredibly impressive. I suspect the Dreamcast and Gamecube emulation will be a breeze for that thing by comparison.

What we game developers and old console game modders need from you guys is to review these monster smartphones using aethersx2 PS2 emulators while running modded PES PS2 games, Gears of war PS2, GOW, and all top AAA games on PS2.... If you do this, then you have all our views. You can ask of links to some of these games I mentioned. But Gears of WAR PS2 will be hard to find tho'...And I really need to see ROG5 running it and taken it's processors to the extreme. But you'll surely see others..... Subscribed ASAP!

Sony's Xperia Play showed that you could make a good formfactor that served both as a phone with a built in gaming pad. No need for huge, bulky accessories plugged in all over the place. I don't really give a damn about extra touch sensors around the place. I guess it's nice to get new stuff for free in the mail but I find it very difficult to get exited about things like this.
