Roger Craig played three full seasons for the University of Nebraska. In his Nebraska career, he rushed for 2,446 yards and 26 touchdowns, with an average of 6 yards per carry. He was an integral running back in Osborne's I-formation option offense.
In eight seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Craig played in 121 games and missed only seven games, five of them in his final season. Playing alongside Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, Tom Rathman, Russ Francis and others in the 49ers diverse offense, Craig accounted for 11,506 yards from scrimmage, rushing for 7064 yards (4.2) and 50 touchdowns, and catching 508 passes for 4442 yards (8.7) and 16 touchdowns. In 16 playoff games with the 49ers, Craig had 817 yards rushing (4.0) with seven touchdowns and 63 receptions for 606 yards (9.7) and two touchdowns, as the 49ers won three Super Bowls.

It is a crying shame that Roger Craig is not in the Hall of Fame. The HOF needs to make this right. The case for Roger Craig: * 3x Superbowl Champion (shining & making key contributions in all 3). * 13k + total yards * 4x Pro Bowl Selection * Most Points/TD's scored in a Super Bowl (record at the time) * First Player in NFL history to gain 1000 yards in the air and 1000 on the ground in the same season. 1000/1000. (An incredible feat). * NFL Offensive Player of the Year * NFC Player of of the Year * Arguably the greatest multi-purpose back to ever play the game. (Arguably no one better at running, blocking & catching in one package). * NFL MVP (Back when there were 2 awards. His selection came from other players & coaches in the league. Speaks for itself). * Could play both backfield positions and was a pro-bowl selection as both running back & full back. * Had a unique, powerful & graceful stride that made him very difficult to tackle. * First running back to lead the entire NFL in receptions for a season (a completely stunning, mind boggling achievement. Absolutely unheard of). * Led all running backs in receptions for six straight years: 1984-1989 * 1980's All-decade team. Other considerations: Considering a players worthiness for the HOF is not a cookie cutter process. One size doesn't fit all. Circumstances must be taken into account. 1. You have to look at Craig's impact on the running back & full back positions. He helped to revolutionize those positions, and how NFL offenses approach the game. He changed the position. Before Craig...the position was mostly a more boring, smash mouth position. 2. His big game ability. In every Superbowl, he showed up & showed out. He wasn't just a guy on the roster. 3. The impact on his team. He made everyone around him better. He was known for his work ethic & dedication. He was also the spoke in the wheel of that offense that made everything else work. It wasn't John Taylor, or Jerry Rice. It was Roger Craig. 4. He was the first to do a number of different things. That needs to be recognized in Canton. 5. His career was cut short by injuries that slowed him down toward the end of his career. Had he been healthy, he could have played another 2-3 years...and would have eclipsed 10k yards rushing....and 15-16k in total yards. Other Key Considerations & Context: Total Yards: 13,100 Only 278 total yards less than O.J. Simpson but more than HOFers Earl Campbell, Larry Csonka, Gayle Sayers, and Lenny Moore. 13,100 total yards are also more total yards than HOF wide receivers: Steve Largent (played 14 years vs. Roger’s 11), Paul Warfield, Lynn Swann (more than double), John Stallworth, Michael Irvin, Calvin Johnson, Art Monk, and Drew Pearson. Touchdowns: 73 Only two less than O.J. Simpson but more than HOFers Ollie Matson, Gayle Sayers, Larry Csonka. Craig belongs in the Hall of Fame. His career speaks for itself. Furthermore, several current HOF'ers believe that Craig should be in Canton. “I believe that Roger is a Hall-of-Famer. Roger was the first to do the double 1,000, his style of running over defensive opponents was unmatched and he was an irreplaceable part of San Francisco's offense in the 1980's.” - Eric Dickerson Hopefully the HOF Seniors Committee will give this man his flowers while he is still here.

Of course Roger Craig is going to the Hall of Fame! The NFL running back to have a 1,000yd rushing/1,000yrd receiving in a single season! And was a consistent 1000yrd rusher throughout his entire career! On a pass heavy team thanks to Joe Montana and Jerry Rice!

Both will start this year. Martinez will be 1 McCaffrey 2. Martinez will miss 1.5 to 2 games. Well if there is football anyway

Great player! So fun to watch him shake players one play and then run through tackles the next. He had great hands, vision and great athleticism.
