Roger has a disarming modesty & naturalness about him that’s most appealing.

Everyone seemed to like Brian Jones except for Mick and Keith. I've never heard another musician (except for Charlie) say a single bad thing about him. Bill Wyman along with John Lennon, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix (among others) gave Brian a large amount of credit to Brian as both a musician and a friend.

The Glummer Twins are still jealous of Brian more than 50 years after his death. You are correct Brian's peers all have lovely things to say about Brian. Brian played on other band's records because he played so many instruments. Brian hired the Glummers and Charlie. They are very immature and try to re-write history but the real fans and other musicians know the truth.

Bill Wyman always champions and defends Jones..in fact he lobbied to have the plaque changed that said that jagger and richards formed the stones after meeting at Dartford railway station. Jones formed the band and recruited Mick and Keith.

By '67 Brian was hanging with The Beatles more than the Stones. I've read he was a handful drunk, liked to abuse women. Keith pretty much kidnapped his girlfriend and drove to another country to keep his girlfriend from killing him. Anita Pallinberg? was not someone to fuck with.

Totally. So many are quoted. Like Ginger Baker. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHGkKGfpJWMhrs My theory on mick and Keith is that the bitterness started in the early 80s. Keith had cleaned himself up, the money was really pouring in and they were the last real great 60s band left (Beatles, Hendrix, Hendrix, etc we’re done). MTV came along and they started to do more interviews and many of the questions were about the early years cause they were around so long. They started thinking legacy and didn’t like the narrative of Brian forming, naming and giving the band its sound and style/swagger when here they were still slogging it out. No doubt mick and Keith took charge with song writing and Andrew’s support, but they couldn’t shake “the reality of Brian”. So the only tried and true way to do so is to slag the guy. I also think that this only happens with Keith’s doing. Keith didn’t do it in the 70s for one reason and that’s Anita. If Keith had slagged Brian when they were together, she would of straightened him out. Just read the 1971 Keith interview with Rolling Stone magazine in which Anita sits in on and is apart of. I’d same 20% of it revolves around Brian and they both speak warmly of him. To go from that to slagging ten years later says a lot. Just listen to Keith in 1971. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bp_HhGNpo5WUn6c. Go to the 6 minute and 20 seconds mark where Keith is asked about mick Taylor having to fill in on Brian. Let’s just say his comparison of Bobby Keys (a man he’s regarded as his soul mate even after he died) to Brian says it all

I don’t get the impression they didn’t like him, it’s just awkward for them because they kicked him out of the band shortly before his death. Even if they had valid reasons, that would weigh on anyone.

Chris has never been in a position of awestruck proximity. The Beatles were iconic before people used that word. They were the reason that many English bands had a chance of success. The Who were an excellent group, with Daltrey an exceptional frontman.

Shocked that even a contemporary as accomplished as Daltrey and the Who would become "starstruck" by the Beatles at that early date. Never would have imagined that. Of course, it's obvious that the Beatles have become iconic, but I was never aware of how revered and in awe other artists were of them at the time.

I see many comments from USA people about Roger. Let me try and explain something please. He's a Londoner, as am I. British schooling system (generally speaking) teaches not to "blow our own trumpets". Stoic and quietly confident. Don't interrupt, constantly listen, wait for the person to finish. 👆 I didn't see much evidence of that here. Nobody was as obsessed 👉 🇺🇸 with The Beatles either, they were just the 1st to come to fruition. Were the most popular. We had lots to choose from. Salutations, from Kensington and Chelsea; in London. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸

Was just re-reading Roger's biography; one of the most clear-eyed, level-headed rock biographies and approaches to the madness of the music business you'll ever read. He's coped with a lot to keep The Who - his band, really - a going concern and not the parody that Townshend always feared.

@RICHBLACKCOCK 3 жыл бұрын
Brittany Garrison. I`m quite sure there were a lot of jazz musicians a generation ahead of the BEATLES, THE WHO & ROLLING STONES, well the BRITISH INVASION in general that didn`t like them either!!! Miles Davis, DIZZY GILLESPIE,CHARLIE PARKER etc. didn`t think much of them. I of the reasons is thatmost of the "ROCKERS"!!! didn`t read music. so like most of the "MILLENIAL!! AUTO TUNERS!!! do play instruments, well. previous rock audiences don`t like them neither. Aliens r allowed into EARTHS orbit i day soon, SUDDENLY!!! people will like millenial music: "OH!!! WERE SORRY!!! WE HAVE A COMMON ENEMY NOW!! Always gotta have a "BAD GUY"!!!! to mask one`s own problems. shame.

@@sratus Welcome. Tell me u got the gist as 2 what I replied to??? It`s all pretty simple. I just had a little fun with the ALIEN INVASION!! portion of it towards the end, that`s all. Most of POP!!! music is geared towards kids/young adults. CORRECT!!!??? Mostly. I mean from the ages of 13/14 to, ok I`ll give it to the mid 20`s. After that, you`re looking in the REAR VIEW MIRROR!!! of your ADOLESCENCE!!! & music played a big part of that. Millenials(WHAT EVER THE HELL THAT MEANS!!) listening 2 Justin Beiber or HIP HOP etc. is for a NEW AGE GROUP. Not for guys who listened to the BEATLES or the WHO, or ROLLING STONES. The JAZZ & BLUES musicians a GENERATION!!! earlier from the BEATLES didn`t care for them much!!! The BEATLES; were in the same POSITION then!!! as HIP HOP guys & Lady Gaga r NOW!!!! heck. guys who listened 2 80`s music HATE!!! GAGA & LIL BOW WOW!!!! now in 2021. I know u see that!!!!
