Yes sad to see his decline after this ..his knees gave up and he dint have the power to run for fast balls .He wasn’t the same fed anymore .So this was his last proper game where he played his best .

Watching this match i did get the dreaded feeling that we could be nearing the end...especially as he was playing on one leg towards the second half of the match. So grateful to have seen all the highs and lows of this incredible man and his 🐐 career.

I remember watching this... a great job saving the match points, but he never should have been in that position to begin with IMO. His play was so inconsistent this match.

This was a career destroying loss for Sandgren. Poor guy. Honestly would've preferred Sandgren to have won this match, as this was the beginning of Federer's three year long absence from the game.

This was a career destroying match for Fed too tbh, given that this match sealed his injury problems he developed in the Millman match. Even Djokovic said in the next match that Fed’s movement was very hampered.

You guys do realise that this was the last tournament before Rog decided to undergo knee surgery ? It’s a miracle what kind of tennis he was still able to put on including the first set against Novak in the semis. Of course, now we know it was the beginning of the end as clearly his body would not allow him to come back afterwards. At the Australian open 2020, Federer‘s body startet giving serious signals that it had reached its limits.

@ it would have helped for sure, but he wasn’t fit enough to beat Djokovic on this day. Winning the first set would have made the match more exciting but the result would have been the same.

He was struggling with his movement in this match and resorted to slices and slower amd low shots to force errors and smartly didnt try fancy shots just played percentage tennis and let sandgren make errors. A lot of those serves federer woild be able to return had he not been injured
