Wow Roger, WOW. I really thought at 8-4 in the tie break that its gonna be over soon. How on earth did he win 6 straight points to not even let Millman have a match point. The man is 38 and a half and hes still beating players much fitter, stronger and younger than him. Millman played an absolutely amazing match, but im so so happy Roger has made it through. Hopefully he can recover his body in time and have an easy straight sets win in the 4th round against Fuscovics.

@@vultur311 doesnt matter. He doesnt have anything left to prove anymore. What he did on court today especially after being 8-4 down, gives us Federer fans the most pleasure. Seeing him fight and fight at 38 years of age against a younger, stronger, fitter opponent. Cant ask for more really.

Roger just played smarter in the key moments. It was his net play that got him over the line. Roger won that one with intelligent play. He realised quite early on that he couldn't beat John from the back of the court so he had to take it to him with some aggressive net play. And that was the key.
@MrPatrickbuit5 жыл бұрын
max col Great match by both? Federer should have put this guy away in straight sets. With all due respect to John, Federer had nearly 80 unforced errors towards the end of the match. He played such fantastic 1R and 2R matches and then he completely loses his concentration against someone like John, simply because he knows he’s lost to him before. John played an amazing super tie break up until 8-4, but come on..
@maxc46555 жыл бұрын
@@MrPatrickbuit You have to take into account the conditions and the type of player Millman is, he is super consistent from the baseline and hits a quite heavy and difficult to attack ball so Fed couldn't finish the points early which made it a very physical match, Roger made unforced errors after a 10 ball rally which in theory they are unforced errors but it's not like they're second ball mistakes.
@grapolo57725 жыл бұрын
All my respect for Millman but this was a great victory for Federer. The triumph of an infinite champion. Not infinite in terms of time but infinite in greatness. Regardless of how these AO continue, I think this is a very important match that no one will be able to cancel and will remain etched in the memory of many people. The champion had to deal with the passing years and against a formidable opponent but never gave up fighting until the end. One of the greatest sportsmen ever.

Paul Johnson Honestly, you could tell how worn out Roger was towards the end of the match. He messed up his serve toss far more often than he usually would and he lost any type of consistency in his strokes.

8-5 in the final tiebreak was just a choke from Millman. 3 errors in a row to bring Fed to 8-8, then Fed hit a good serve and put Millman on the defend from the start. And the final point Millman messed up maybe 'cause of the crowd? Either way it was a big choke. When you're 8-5 and need only 2 more points, it's unbelievable to hit 3 errors in a row. Especially when 2 were in normal rallies on his own serve.
