Even nowadays, he is my favorite tennis player of all time. In terms of technique, his baseline style became widespread in modern tennis. Semi-western forehand and two-handed backhand were really uncommon when Agassi was a kid. In terms of marketing, he made several inovations and brought a lot of attention to the sport. Sponsors became more interested in tennis. He opened the path for this new generation. He should be praised more about what he represented to the sport.
@Editor_Hound
@Editor_Hound 2 жыл бұрын
It's interesting, most of tennis pundits say he played his FH with a semi-western grip, while Andre himself says in his Udemy course that he used an eastern grip, he even showed on his racquet that he had his index finger knuckle on bevel nr. 3 saying this allowed him to have a bigger strike zone. But all in all, Andre did revolutionize tennis. One of the greatest. And to this day the cleanest ball striker to ever grace the game, in my book.

When Agassi burst on the tennis scene a doublehanded backhand was fairly common. Borg, Connors, Wilander to name a few.
@marcosdoyter7460
@marcosdoyter7460 6 ай бұрын
@@ArthurVerhulst Borg’s and Connor’s backhands were really different. The motion was completely different. The only modern tennis players, that I remember, that had such a backhand were Berasategui and Meligeni. It is simple to verify. You just have to research vídeos on KZbin to see how their backhand were different. My point was the fact that one-hand backhand and eastern forehand dominated the scene.

Looking back Agassi s decline in movement from 2000 to 2003 was crazy (as mentioned by Cahill). Probably more to do with his back than his age. Looking back to agassi at a similar age to fed, maybe around 1989, he moved like a demon, not too many faster than him on tour. This was one of those turning points in their rivalry, although that bad line call in the 2nd set costing Agassi a break back and a missed volley in the final set tie break proving decisive. Also, Feds movement compared to now, he was a lot faster, but still hasn't lost as much as others.

Yeah like at 3:40 he can stab cleanly at the forehand and on the very next shot run around to hit this down the line. Thats free movement. In his later years he would hit backhand in this spot, which changes everything.

If you look how the game changed when Agassi started his career and a match like this. The change is way bigger than the transition in 2000s to 2020s. He actually won a slam in 2003. I wonder how he would have coped with the game now days (and I'm pretty much certain he would have coped just fine).

With points like the 7:00 mark, the only acceptable behavior at a match like this is cheering wildly 👏

Agassi was brilliant. had.he not melted down in the late 90s he would have won far more than 8 slams.
