Even nowadays, he is my favorite tennis player of all time. In terms of technique, his baseline style became widespread in modern tennis. Semi-western forehand and two-handed backhand were really uncommon when Agassi was a kid. In terms of marketing, he made several inovations and brought a lot of attention to the sport. Sponsors became more interested in tennis. He opened the path for this new generation. He should be praised more about what he represented to the sport.
@Editor_Hound2 жыл бұрын
It's interesting, most of tennis pundits say he played his FH with a semi-western grip, while Andre himself says in his Udemy course that he used an eastern grip, he even showed on his racquet that he had his index finger knuckle on bevel nr. 3 saying this allowed him to have a bigger strike zone. But all in all, Andre did revolutionize tennis. One of the greatest. And to this day the cleanest ball striker to ever grace the game, in my book.

@@ArthurVerhulst Borg’s and Connor’s backhands were really different. The motion was completely different. The only modern tennis players, that I remember, that had such a backhand were Berasategui and Meligeni. It is simple to verify. Looking back Agassi s decline in movement from 2000 to 2003 was crazy (as mentioned by Cahill). Probably more to do with his back than his age. Looking back to agassi at a similar age to fed, maybe around 1989, he moved like a demon, not too many faster than him on tour. This was one of those turning points in their rivalry, although that bad line call in the 2nd set costing Agassi a break back and a missed volley in the final set tie break proving decisive. Also, Feds movement compared to now, he was a lot faster, but still hasn't lost as much as others.

@lucafelici29024 жыл бұрын
To me, this is Federer at his best. I never understand why he changed his groundstrokes tecnique, especially the forehand, which compared to this, has become way more wristy, innaccurate and less powerful. I think with that consistency from the back of the court, most of the matches he lost against Djokovic and Nadal would had a different story.
@davidzhang17613 жыл бұрын
How did he change his forehand technique? The main difference to me is a shorter backswing
@brandnew98342 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he changed his technique, you can’t really just reprogram a swing as an adult. But I do think he likely adjusted his wrist movement to accommodate the changes in racquet technology and the strings and even the balls.
@lucafelici29022 жыл бұрын
Actually it is possible to change the technique of a stroke in an adult, of course it's harder than with younger people, but look at Djokovic serve for example, when he's former coach Todd Martin tried to change his motion in 2009, he had a lot of troubles with serve and completely lost the rhythm. Also to me doesn't make sense that he has to shorten the backswing, for two reasons: first it wasn't so huge that needed to be changed (del potro had maybe the best forehand ever, with a way huge backswing) second, the court are getting slower everywhere, compared to 2003, so today he should have even more time to prepare, If you look at this highlights, they played super fast but he's timing it's perfect with the larger swing. I think it's not cause of balls, strings or even the racket change; I think it was more unintentional.
@brandnew98342 жыл бұрын
@@lucafelici2902 An adult can change their swing, but It won’t be an automatic reflex. Muscle memory is pretty much developed by age ten. It would be really hard to play as a professional, especially at the highest level having to think about how you’re gonna produce your forehand. That’s usually how people end up with hitches in their strokes. The only pros I can remember who were successful in doing this are Rafa Nadal and Nikolay Davydenko. Nadal is the only player I’ve seen really change his swings and still win Majors, not sure how he is able to do that. With Djokovic, that was a disastrous decision to change his serve and since he has gone back to his original motion he’s won 19 Majors.
