@jakehuang35452 жыл бұрын
Fed had so much missed opportunities in 2014-15 IMO. Nadal and Murray was struggling with injuries, and while Djokovic was at his peak, Fed definitely would have won a lot of close matches had he had the mental game then.
@machello92 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's about the mental game. It's about stamina. 2013 was a disaster for him and his body and it took him a while to get back to playing consistently well. All of Federer's victories over Djokovic in 2014 and 2015 are outside of grand slams on days where he was able to be super aggressive to shorten the point and be effective. He was doing that because his stamina was not 100% still there.
@sakshamsanwaria74862 жыл бұрын
@@machello9 I don't get it why can't fed rally like djokovic. He has been like that since 2012. Always look for winners to shorten the point
@machello92 жыл бұрын
@@sakshamsanwaria7486 it's a matter of different approaches and different technique. Federer tends to be aggressive, anticipates the ball a lot, has a one handed backhand and uses his immense talent to try to hit winners from every position and in every way possible because he knows he can do that. Djokovic uses way more spin, generally hits safer shots and rallies more consistently thanks to his great defending skills and movement. He likes prolongued rallies because they suit his abilities. Now, after 2013 this dynamic became even more relevant because of Djokovic entering his prime years and Federer progressively reducing his stamina levels and intensity. The way Roger plays his game requires abnormal talent (which he has) and consistently good physical condition which he had most of the times but injuries started to fuck it up from 2013 to 2016 and then obviously age (2017 aside where he had been out for months and came back looking like a 25 year old and playing stellar tennis). You can see now that even Rafa and Djokovic are changing their game around and making adjustements all the time because age starts to catch up and injuries start to be a problem when you're in your mid 30's.
@sakshamsanwaria74862 жыл бұрын
@@machello9 Yeah! Sometimes I think his 2017 AO stint was an outlier because he was literally playing 5 setters and rallying with some classic baseliners. He didn't need to fo that for Wimb 2017 because he was in his touch of the decade. Wimb 2017 showed the world why a fully fit federer so naturally brilliant on grass.

2015 US is the one that hurts. The Wimbys Novak was too good, but it is annoying that Fed could beat Novak on fast hard courts at Dubai in 14 and 15 and Shanghai in 14 but couldn't do it when it mattered most

Murray was coming back from what is normally assumed to be a career ending major back surgery here (Surgery post USO 2013). It's insane that he actually qualified for this in 2014 despite being miles off his usual fitness and level. He was also burnt out from the heavy schedule he played to accumulate the points to quilify for the WTF in the weeks preceding it. That Murray achieved what he did post major back surgery is unprecedented in the sport. One might call it Murraculous!

Also Roger defeated him 5 times in GSs on all surfaces barring RG. Andy defeated him in AO 2013, only once. 2013 was thr worst federer I would say. But it is pretty weird that Fed struggled against murray the most in his pre 2010 years, especially in 2008 and 2009 when Fed was closer to his prime. Murray even defeated him in 2006, the absolute prime federer. In those years murray wasn't in his prime. Once murray got in his prime years he started getting beaten by Roger. It is very non intuitive!

Most of the defeats to Fed happened in 2014 when Murray was nowhere near his usual level or fitness. This particular defeat came after an insane schedule as Murray needed a lot of points to qualify.
