Most definitely... The quality and excitement factor over the past couple if years has declined completely. Miss Safin!

The only time I've ever seen Federer smile after a loss. He knew that day that no one in the world could have beaten Safin.

Greatest AO match ever... The shot making brilliance here is unparalleled. 2009 final a close 2nd followed by the slugfest of a 2012 final.

Omgoodness both these monsters would slaughter anything current. Every aspect of both their games is way better than anything now in the top 20. Hard to believe Safin didn’t have 10 plus majors, goes to show how good Feds and others back then really were. This may be the highest level of combined complete talent, speed and power to ever set foot on a court. One could argue Sampras Becker would be one of the other possible mega combo’s that would rival given they were both one hand back hand bombers with incredible touch using small rackets.

Marat Safin is a better stronger version of Zverev and FAA. He was such a physical specimen and complete package of serve, groundstrokes and net play. But his injuries and anger management issues were his demise. I think a prime Marat Safin had he played in this era would own Djokovic.
@thebeardedgolfer9819 Жыл бұрын
@@outatime16 an old, damaged, under practiced and disinterested Safin Demolished a hungry tuned and eager Djokovic at Wimbs 08. Just show how that Safins era really was the tail end of the monster era. The recent Atp Champions tour Lendl Cash team tournament showcased just how strong the monster era was. The ball striking skills that remain in these retired warriors is exceptional.

Funny that Federer lost right after running out of blue shirts. Also the way he started his season with this match was similar to the way he ended it against Nalbandian in the Masters Cup final: being forced to a fifth set after having led, not converting match points, being down in the fifth set and coming back only to lose anyway.

If fed a bigger racquet head, I think he could’ve been less defensive in some of these points. Satin executed his strategy perfectly; targeting the fed backhand all day with deep groundies.

yes. thanks the one i was searching for. way better than the 53 stroke zverev djokovic rally.
@alexgiles15612 жыл бұрын
@@RobertHurleyJr I agree. While the Zverev-Djokovic rally was very impressive in some regards, it was more a demonstration of stamina than shot-making. In this point between Safin and Federer, you can see both are constantly looking/trying to move up to and even inside the baseline. For the vast majority of the point between Zverev and Djokovic, both players are, at the same time, comfortably behind the baseline; there are significant periods of neutral play in that point. The Federer-Safin point reminds me of a point between Sampras and Agassi from the '95 US Open final on set point; they just moved each other around the court so much and continuously. Now, I know that the professionals are far, far superior to an amateur such as myself; however, I could hold a decent rally when I used to practice. Not amazing, but decent and used to catch the eyes of people on the other courts from time to time. When I used to rally with friends, standing comfortably behind the baseline made it much easier to strike the ball and cut the errors, but it also resulted in no one getting an upper hand until someone started to show a bit of fatigue in the rally (though again, we were just rallying for fun so no desire to "win" or gain upper hands). Moving up closer to the baseline made it more fun; there were more errors, which also meant the average rally length came down, but we didn't care because the points were more fun. I would also say that racket tech., in particular string tech., has changed the game too. For me, this is why I have less interest in pro tennis these days; I just find it more one-dimensional and less creative. That is just my own opinion though.

What a rally indeed! Does anyone know how many shots it was? Anyway high quality tennis with huge variety of powerful shots.. Last few year's of tennis lacks this unfortunate. Miss the old days!

• Balls were lighter therefore faster. • Plexicuhsion court-surface had less sand mixed into the paint so was faster. • Shots were significantly less topspinny so play was faster. So, _no._
