I saw people commenting on Facebook that he didn't address any shortcomings and therefore they must've paid him off. It's not like he has to be aware of every MPC model that came out after the 3000. He was probably blown away at how far ahead they've evolved his creation. The 3000 didn't load keygroups, didn't have plug ins or even effects for that matter. People need to see the forest from the trees
@LitCrease3 ай бұрын
He kinda addressed in the beginning that he had beef with the old Japan-based Akai but was kool with American Akai and enjoyed the free quality product - which was probably sent as a peace offering. It went over people's heads, though
@avace9173 ай бұрын
@@LitCrease I somehow missed that he said that. I watched the video from Linn's own KZbin channel as well. Even without that, people should be grateful that he even took the time to say anything about the current MPCs. People can be so entitled sometimes that it's disgusting.
@crnkmnky3 ай бұрын
@@LitCrease My understanding was that they owed him back royalties since they became American (InMusic). I have no idea how that was resolved, but I feel like it had to be for this to come together.

Yup, didn't look like that was paid to me at all. Though he only ALLUDED to the beef he had with Akai, something everyone would have missed if they didn't know the history. As a fan of the mpc line myself, I would think that he would be gobsmacked at what it can do now, and at that price. Must have been a reality check next to his LinnStrument. And I would think he would be proud that his offspring is so ubiquitous now, despite the beef. Linn will always be a hero to me though. I just bought an AdrenaLinn end of last year.

Great guy...I got to hang with him in the 80s and he even stopped by my studio when he was working on the MPC for Akai. I had a LinnSequencer back then. I also hung with Bob Moog at NAMM. The OGs! Those were the days!

Roger Linn actually designed the Ableton Push in a way which uses some of his MPC ideas and some of his Linnstrument ideas. He also designed the Maschine in a way and also the MC-707 and all the groove boxes that came around after his design hit. What an absolute genius of all time.

Honestly I've always felt the "DAW-in-a-box" allegations have been way overstated. I was able to jump right into the same workflow on the Live 2 that I used a decade prior on the MPC 1000, and while I think that improvements could be made to lessen the dependence on the touchscreen and some sequence arrangement issues that need to be hammered out, it still feels like an MPC to me, just with built-in plugins and modern QOL features like wifi and USB.

Yo Ave! Just wanted to add to what you were saying about new MPC accessibility, from someone who is completely blind. I would love if Akai added accessibility to the new MPCsIt really shouldn't require too much more than studying how apple implemanted accessibility/screen reader usage in iOS. Currently I use a 2500... How I do, long story short, is just interface memorization, definitely not the best workaround, but I am getting things done to a very satisfactory level for me. PEACE 🫡
