So, Roger fought a LEGIT fight against a prime great in Julio Cesar Chavez. He fought a great fight. Roger was a good champion, and never ducked anyone. He fought them all. He was a warrior and could punch like hell. I apologize for all the posts. I just love to talk boxers and boxing. Peace.

People never take into account that Chavez didn't grow up training for the olympics or had proper health care, nutrition, ect. He grew up a poor child in mexico in a bad time and u.s poverty didn't even compare to mexico's poverty! That's why he was so iconic to all the mexican's who could relate to him, He wasn't fast, he shouldn't have even won a lot of those fights on paper but he did. And he wasn't just a brawler, if you knew anything about boxing, you knew he had great defense and offense. He slipped punches, he pressured fighters, he had accuracy, footwork, he didn't waste punches, he could lead with his chin, he had power, he was outmatched sometimes and he figured out a way to win. he may have looked like a brawler to those who don't know boxing but he fought intelligently..he was very smart in the ring and had alot of heart. Doing what he did is not easy and you can't appreciate it until you are actually fighting someone faster and more skilled than you.. he didn't just swing to get a lucky shot, he had timing. He is one of the greatest and towards the end of his career he wasn't the same, he didn't grow up with all the advantages u.s children had so of course his body would've aged and he would get slower. I hate how some people are quick to put Chavez down but they don't even realize how different life was back then, now things are different. If he would have grown up in this time he would've been even better and he is already great. We have more advantages to become better boxers but Chavez he didn't..and Now He is A legend.

Wait wtf? Chavez wasnt a great boxer? the man was like 86-0 before he lost his first fight to frankie randall who tested positive for steroids after the fight.He holds the record for most title defenses thats freaken impressive. You dont accomplish that by just being smart and strong you also have to have a high-level of skill, a great chin and tremendous heart.

Winners, true winners, believe it or not, are not slaves to outcomes. They understand that the toughest battle they will ever fight is the battle of self. The toughest opponent they face each day is the one staring back at them in the mirror. If they can conquer that opponent,they have no fear of any other opponent, for they know that they have overcome and are ready. The actual prize fight is the easy part. Win,lose or draw,you know that you came to win, and you gave it your all. That's heaven.

Very intelligent comment young man. There is NO SHAME getting beat by an all-time great. There is no shame in getting beat by anyone that you climb into the ring with. The only shame there is is when you did not give it your all, and that starts with training camp. When you defeat yourself, that's the only shame. Did you do your roadwork to completion? Did you eat right? Did you fine-tune your skills, log rounds,come up with the best possible strategy,study film,etc. Did you prepare to win?

Roger Mayweather gave it his all. He hung his head as he quit, but that's only because he is a proud champion, and he felt he let alot of people down, primarily his family, and he felt disappointed. There's nothing wrong with that. Had Roger had a different 3rd man in the ring, he may have very well pulled off the upset. Joe Cortez and Steele come to mind. But, he had a ref, in Elesperu, who simply would NOT allow him to get away with illegal tactics or excessive holding, like most refs allow.
@TheChoice264
@TheChoice264 11 жыл бұрын
Elesperu was a great ref and also a great boxing judge. Davey Pearl was, IMO, the greatest ref in the history of the sport. These were men who DID THEIR JOB, and complied with the rules of the trade. Cortez,Steele, and Lane are 3 of the most famous refs in history, and all 3, IMO, were 2nd rate refs. Just because they had many title fights does not mean they were the best. It has next to nothing to do with it. Larry Hazard was another GREAT ref.

@hotta1488 When Floyd fought Oscar he was 34. The same age Floyd is now. Also even worse he was 20 pounds heavier then Floyd in the ring. He was also fighting at his natural weight class and wasn't drained. When Floyd fought Mosley guess what Roach said. Floyd would get KO'd. He also said that he would only fight Mosley at a catch weight at that time because of the KO he put on Margarito. He didn't even want Manny to fight him until after Floyd beat him. Sorry but facts are facts.

I think Julio Caesar Chavez is one of the greatest to ever lace em, but I hate how people dick-ride Chavez just to put down other fighters accomplishments. Yeah, Roger got beat by Chavez twice, but what other way to have an honorable loss than to know you've gotten beaten by one of the greatest? It's no shame in getting beat by a great, in my opinion. No shame at all.

If you think Floyd wouldn't stand a chance against Chavez. I can give you the name of a fighter than was smaller than Floyd and didn't hit as hard as Floyd. Pernell Whitaker. In my opinion, Pernell beat chavez 7 rounds to 5. If Chavez had a hard time hitting Parnell, how could he have hit Floyd, when Chavez's style is tailor made to be hit consistently by Floyd. Chavez is an easy target in the ring going against a fighter like Floyd that's extremely accurate.
