I was able to see him live several times during the years and I attended his last homecoming show in West Plains, Mo., a few years before he died. He was a great ambassador of country music and I played on a show with Spec and his Brother Dusty in Hardy in 75 and he was such a gracious person.

While I was certainly a fan of his classic music, I've heard that being a member of George Jones' "Jones' Boys" backup road band was an absolute nightmare! Probably the worst job a Nashville musician could have back in those days! One of many stories I've heard was how he left his band stranded pennyless in England. They had to have their parents wire them money to fly back to America!

@@IMBrute-ir7gz I hadn't heard that one. I didn't know until after Tubbs passed away that him being a Heavy Drinker was the best kept Secret in Nashville. Id also heard a story that Tubbs was drunk on the Tour Bus one night, and they were rolling down the highway. I guess Tubbs wore a ring on his right hand that was bigger than a Super Bowl Champion Ring. He and Jack Greene were sitting on one of the couches and Tubbs was telling him a story. Jack said every time Tubbs would make a point, he would slap Jack on the thigh. Jack said it hurt like Hell. Later on when Jack was getting ready for bed, he saw that is whole Right Thigh was Black, Blue, and Purple.

I know that Miss Parton had just started out on the show the year before. However, in hindsight, it's a bit much that she and the guest star George Jones not only sang no songs together but also didn't speak or interact and would only appear together oncamera during the closing credits. She obviously wasn't shy so I'm wondering if Mr. Wagoner didn't want to chance Mr. Jones . .asking Miss Parton for a date, etc.? Of course, it was totally Mr. Wagoner's show and call who got to sing/chat with whom during the show's shooting -and it would be several years before he became confident enough to have Miss Parton being the show's co-hostess instead of just 'the little lady' who sang duets with him and some of her solo songs.

MUSICIANS -- Does anybody understand the signal processing at 6:36 that makes a banjo sound like a steel? I also noticed the fast triplet-picking runs at 1:45 (Rocky Top) that also sounded like a muted steel. The banjo player was detuning and tuning back up to make it sound like a steel again....meanwhile the actual pedal steel player was just standing up not even touching his instrument. Was that a processed banjo too?

PS. Mac McGeyhee the fiddler trading 8 beats with the banjo player...LOL...that guy has so much zest in his playing, it's just exploding out of him. This has nothing to do with the clip, but it's a funny story nonetheless. At some point in Buck Trent's tenure with The Wagon Masters, they played a show with Grandpa Jones (probably The Opry), then both Porter and Pa had individual gigs to play in opposite directions. Unfortunately, either Buck or Pa picked up the wrong case when they left so Buck had Pa's instrument and vice versa but neither of them knew it until show time. Buck could make due thanks to his amplifier, but poor Pa! He said later "When I opened that case and saw all those knobs and wires I woulda' swore the dern thing was a short wave radio."
