I saw Roger while in the service in Okinawa in ‘67. In between sets he came over to our table and drank draft beer with us. He’s been my hero ever since.

My older sister used to go to the record store and buy 25 cent singles to entertain my younger sister and me. Every time she found a Roger Miller single, she was sure to bring it home. Roger Miller was the Dr. Seuss of pop music; his gift for words (and making up a few if necessary) was genius level and we were at the perfect age to appreciate him without being afraid we were unsophisticated. As a 65-year-old, I'm still not afraid to openly appreciate his genius.

Roger Miller's release of "King of the Road" when I was a high school senior in 1965 inspired me to take up songwriting. He became my songwriting idol.
@jbrown292Ай бұрын
I always thought he was an incredibly underrated songwriter. He gets nowhere near the credit he deserves, if you listen to him outside of some of his silly songs, hes a REALLY good songwriter.
@BLACKYODELNO1Ай бұрын
@@jbrown292 When he swept every categories in the Grammys, the change the rules so no other singer/songwriter could do it again. I first wanted to write more songs (over 3000) than him, then decided I wanted to write songs as good, or better, than his. With over 1200 songs I didn't do too bad, even though they've never been acknowledged by main stream Nashville. Still, I've produced 2 45rpms, 11 cassettes, and 66 CDs since April 1981 following my 1st professional Nashville recording session at Globe Recording Studio.

I truly do miss Roger's comedic singing genius. He was so fun. His songs always perked me up and made me laugh. There was only one other who cam close to singing, comedic genius and that's Ray Stevens.
