i usually make it over to Galway every other summer to visit my friend, but this year coronavirus has stopped everything. So instead i watch session videos and old school flute players play tunes. balm for the soul

It's been reported on a couple of traditional music websites that Roger Sherlock has passed away. I’m personally very sad to hear this news. Roger was a great flute player, and a real gentleman. My very first flute class at the Willie Clancy week in 1980 was with him and P.J.Crotty [RIP]. I learned so much in that week from both of them, not just the tunes, and the playing of them, but about the music itself, and the people who play it. The whole week was great fun, from start to end. I’m very indebted and grateful to Roger for sharing his music with us over that week and would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends. The link below is to another short clip of him in a session which was from a 1980s TV programme about the Irish in London : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ3Sl2SveqZ-qpY KZbin

The first tune is actually the Mason's Apron. "Lad O'Beirne's Mason's Apron" perhaps but it's probably Paddy Killoran's.

This looks a good flute- Eb with a rod/axel foot joint mechanism ...possibly a Boosey& Hawkes? for playing with brass instruments.

I thought it was Martin O'Grady playing he used to play around the Hollaway Road years ago.

The first tune doesn't appear to be any of James "Lad" o Beirnes Reels or the Masons Apron as Suggested. Could anyone shed some light on the Name of the First Reel??
@douglashadden21729 жыл бұрын
Robert Coohill Stiamh Ionas below is correct when he says it is the "Mason's Apron", or at least one of many versions of it.
@TheTarmac79 жыл бұрын
Robert Coohill definitely Paddy Killoran's Masons Apron
